Thermal Wrap For NA Headers
 

I searched and found alot of turbo guys did this for their downpipes, but couldn't find any people doing it on their NA's for their headers. I was wondering if there was any gains? Does it help in scavaging? Would it be worth it?

Any help will be appreciated.

I've thought about doing this as well.Thought it might help reduce under hood temps or maybe keep as much heat from radiating off the header and into the LIM that sits right above it.Never have got around to trying it though.

wraped my manifold ... big big drop in under hood and cabin temps ... jegs sells it for 75.00 or so. took my time and got it on there perfect. we all know that heat kills. just make sure that the rest of your exhaust is up to the task.

Power no not unless your puting out so much heat your heating up your manifold and the air inside it. It is all about keeping heat in and heat out of the bay! Good mod to do, will do just as good for you as the turbo guys.

I'll probably look to wrap my header and the pipe between my AFM and UIM. Thanks!

I understand that ceramic coating is also a popular heat-reducing modification.

I'd be careful with the wrap stuff and to not get it wet, unless your going to let it dry. Seems like it could cause rust to form prematurely

Wouldnt the water evaporate off the rotary heat of the headers though? :o

It might get trapped between the header and the wrap though, which could cause it. What about coating the header with that super high-temp ceramic paint first, then wrapping it?

I've been thinking about trying the heat wrap on my RB header but I haven't had teh extra money lying around to try. :D

ive heard it helps with scavenging, but ive also heard several bad things about it, like they said, water can get trapped in, when the car starts and it heats up it will evaporate, and it'll leave salt, and eventually it'll cause the header to crack. this is just the info i got from another individual on the matter.

i think the best way to do it to keep out water would be to wrap with the header wrap, then put on some aluminum ducting heat proof tape (it says it will not lose adhesion at any temp) all the way down.

or just something to keep water away from the wrap.

I forgot about Cermanic coating, does that aid, Thermal wrap doesn't seem like the best idea then. All input needed ;o!

i plan on putting a nice coat of high temp paint on my RB (n/a) header, then wrapping it, and putting the ceramic spray on top.

anyone reccomend a good wrap kit?

people do it all the time. paint the header. wrap it, and paint it again.

i dunno, guess it does seems wierd to paint thermal wrap.

Header wrap works well with rotaries, I used it on my headers. The thermal paint is not so good; from what I was told... "It is a waste of time". Sound deadener/heat shield insulation can be applied under hood and under carpet to aid heat reduction also.

Any word for headers? Or should I talk my girlfriend into letting me use her dyno :(.

I spoke with a very knowledgeable exhaust guy that I know on the subject a while back and he said that on a racecar, its a good idea. But on a street car, its not as beneficial as it seems. The heat generated will of course be contained but because of the fact that metals on a street car are not as high quality as racing stuff, the heat will eventually crack the header. Im a crew member for a late model out here in albuquerque and I saw the results from the wrap on lower quality headers. They were just crumbling and falling apart.
