There are finally RTEK chips for S5s!!!

Did anyone else notice this?

They only have RTEK 1.0s for the S5 NA that gets rid of the OMP but atleast they are releasing S5 units now.

Black91n/a 10-21-06 09:52 PM

I saw that, and they're currently develloping 2.0's for both S4 and S5 NA's. Full tunability for less than the cost of a Megasquirt!

Mindspin311 10-21-06 09:54 PM

They need a 2.0 for the S5 Turbos dammit

i talked to the guy over there about a S5 TII 2.0 and he told me not to be expecting it anytime soon. ;/ that sucks..

What the fuck, why is everything made for the damn S4s?!???!

why didn't you just get an s4 then? leave the s5 for people that are willing to spend real money.

X-JaVeN-X 10-22-06 11:12 PM

seems the s5 gets all the body kits and crap made for them...so I'm glad I have an s4 (with an rtek 2.0 I might add), cause they have all the performance stuff made for them.

Beat me too it.

slpin 10-23-06 12:20 AM

yeah

not only that
consider it from the manfacture's point of view

all fc owners are poor (except for the 3 known rich fc owners)

for every 100 fc owner, 1 of them will buy parts to upgrade

out of that 1, only a hundredth of that could afford something more than a s-afc

so you are targetting that that small number, and then you have to convince him of you product over whatever

with more s4 owners than s5, you see why it has the pritory?

because the s5 was more expensive than the fd! so theres only 58 of em, 31 red ones, 16 black ones, 7 white ones, 3 blue ones, and 1 gold one

DrifterDuo 10-23-06 10:21 AM

^ you forgot about my poor yellow S5

SWEET I HAVE 1 OF 7 WHITE TII!!!!!! value just went up anouther 2k.. w00t w00t

I can't wait for the S4 N/A 2.0 chip. I hope it comes out before spring.

bacek 10-23-06 06:14 PM

why would someone want to tune with a piggyback?

i still dont see how a 2.0 is more valuable than a 1.7 or the 1.8 thats supposed to come out

Because it is NOT a piggy back.

compuskills 10-23-06 08:00 PM

Also the problem is no is willing to donate an S5 TII to them to do the R&D.

go check out the 2.0 more
it has adjustable 3d timing and fuel maps, w/ a very nice diagnostic feature and DELETES the fuel cut code and not just trick the ECU like a normal FCD.
The 2.0 and even the other rteks are the best thing to happen to poor FC owners in a while. It utterly kicks ass for what it is and is AFFORDABLE.

I was and still am a big rtek supporter.
However, I wanted far better drivability and a higher redline than the stock ecu/rtek are capable of.
I went w/ the 32bit 125rpm pt dual map/datalogging capable wold 3d v500. Stock ecu is only 8bit, its like a nintendo vs playstation.

That statement right there is bait to start a flame war.

"Full tunability." is a dangerous and vauge comparison.

I don't agree the RTEK's tuning capabilities can rightly be compared to a MegaSquirt, as the MegaSquirt is a full standalone, so of course it is going to cost more.

Black91n/a 10-24-06 07:58 PM

Ok, well fully correctable stock fuel tables plus or minus 20% (IIRC) and fully tunable timing maps, with corrections for different injectors. You can't tune everything, but you can adjust the important stuff. I'd think it'd work just as well as a Megasquirt for engines that haven't deviated too far from stock with much less setup required.

I agree, the Megasquirt is a more powerful tuning tool, but it'd also be more difficult to set up (more to do, more places to make a mistake) and I can't see it offering any significant advantages to most people.

What in the world are you talking about?

A ZEMS and an RTEK are the same in one respect, you plug it in and it works.

The only MegaSquirts that require setup before plugging them in cost LESS then the RTEK (Unlike the ones you mentioned in your first post)

AlexG13B 10-25-06 09:18 AM

I had Rtek 2.0 and I sold it to get Megasquirt. Megasquirt is a potenially more powerful mangment system. It can be built for anything!
I didn't like that Rtek only gave 15% fuel adjustment (which is ok for most people but what if you decided to upgrade something later on?)
The Diag feature is ok, not mind blowing. Just checks for electricty at the wires at ecu, and some info I didn't really need anyways.
Megasquirt Gives the user adjustabilty which I think is important. You can customize the bins to whichever rpms u wanted. (Can put up to 10,00 for example for a bridgeport, etc.) U can use it as a central hub almost to control other things fc users use (elec. Fans, aux inj., and even if u remove thermowax u can use BAC to keep car on!)
I just think about now and the future and I I see megasquirt as a better investment for me. There is also a autotune feature with wideband, tells u duty cycle numbers, more accurate formulas, tons of features that I don't even have the time to post.

I might get flamed but I justed to tell people what I thought, don't downgrade something you never used.
My 2 cents.

Black91n/a 10-25-06 01:45 PM

Here's the way I see it:

S-AFC < Rtek 2.0 < Megasquirt

I agree 100% that the Megasquirt is the better/more powerful solution.

I'm not trying to put down the Megasquirt and I wasn't talking about your ZEMS other than for the cost standpoint. But to buy a fully assembled Megasquirt I with a V3.0 board, which would be a fair comparison to a Rtek (as you don't have to assemble the Rtek), would be about the same cost ($330 vs $350), but it'd still require mods which up the cost, time required and effort required. So the cost argument is valid in my oppinion, at very least there's no difference in cost when comparing comperable pieces.

Most people just change the intake and exhaust and want to tune the fuel to get better power and fuel economy, so something like an S-AFC is good enough, and it's quite easy to set up and will allow the car to drive 100% like stock when connected with no corrections inputted.

The Rtek gives a little more adjustment and allows you to tune the spark timing too. It's got more parameters to deal with when tuning (spark also), but when you plug it in with no corrections it'll drive 100% like stock, because it still is using the stock computer, it's basically just a more powerful piggyback in that sense.

With the Megasquirt it's a fully tunable standalone, so there's far more parameters to input to get it to work with all the sensors, there's things like accel enrichments and so on to set on top of the fuel and ignition maps, so it'll take longer to set up (assuming starting from scratch) so there's more paramaters to tune, making the tuning process a little more time consuming and more involved. With the ZEMS one the setup is done for you, but there's still more values to tune to get it running perfectly on your particular setup, which takes time.

Is that better/clearer? I'm not saying it's difficult or anything, I'm just saying that relative to the Megasquirt the Rtek 2.0 should be faster and easier set up and tune.

I'll probably end up getting a Megasquirt for my car in the end, especially if the plug and play for the S5 is out by then (next year probably for when I'll be shopping).
