Is there anything else i can do to this N/a

Here is my list of mods. Im getting a new exhaust soon. And I am getting the engine tuned with the safc II. Is there anything else to do for power?
91 N/A
rebuilt with ~7000 miles
minor streetport
removed aux sleeves
S4 intake manifold
ported throttle body with 'tb mod'
Racing Beat uncollected header
custom 2 to 1 exhaust pipe with Catco cat
Y exhaust
solid engine mounts (scalliwag)
Koyo radiator
S-AFC II

Not really. Your next upgrade is either one or both of two things

1)More weight reduction if you haven't already
2)Get yourself a haltech (or any other standalone for that matter)

You could go turbo, but the post clearly states (what can i do to this NA)

Camrann 06-16-05 09:52 PM

Im gonna get a T2 swap when i get more money. But for now its pretty quick Im gonna get it dynoed after I get it tuned.

MRX_Rotary 06-16-05 09:54 PM

I didn't see cold air intake. Then do weight reduction. Also, lose some mass in the drivetrain, lighter wheels, light flywheel, etc.

Stanello 06-16-05 09:54 PM

Not for power but, I'd say get a really good clutch and light flywheel.

BlaCkPlaGUE 06-16-05 09:54 PM

Well if you do decide to go standalone, its a wicked upgrade that is of course transferable to the TII. If you want more power and want to make an investment for your car, get the standalone.

Camrann 06-16-05 10:14 PM

Oh sry, I forot to put air intake. And what exactlly will i have to do if i get a haltech.
And i just bought a goodclutch. Ans im buying and aluminum flywheel.

Aux sleeves? Never knew you could mod the throttle body. Wait, by removing the Aux sleeves, what was the difference? I'm going to do a search on the benefits of removing the aux sleeves, now

coldfire 06-16-05 10:47 PM

removing the 6pi sleeves gives a very small gain in top end flow, and is really only good if they aren't working properly. you of course loose low end torque characteristics.

Camrann, just a question: why are you using the S4 intake manifold?
i don't think a minor streetport justifies having the S4 intake manifold. you might want to consider swapping your S5 manifold back on. it will give you a better torque curve primarily and a little power gain up top.

properly dyno tuning your SAFC will give your biggest gain at this point.

also, have you considered things that might help you go faster, but don't necessarily give you power?
i'm talking about things like the drivetrain. you might want to consider something like an aftermarket limited slip differential with a higher gear ratio...

I would like an LSD but those are sooo much $$ lol, How hard would it be to change out the intake manifold with the s5.

and about the NOS hell no. Im way to much of a pussy for that stuff. haha

Leave your original air box and get a K&N air filter unless you are going to build a custom air box for the intake. Otherwise all you're gonna do is suck hot air from the engine bay into your motor.

Aftermarket panel filters are a waste of money unless you plan on keeping the car (and that filter) for many, many years. You will not get any performance gain from it.

Since the intake is already done (I presume that just means a pod filter) then an obvious mod to do is a proper heat shield and cold air duct.

Camrann 06-17-05 03:09 PM

how would i route a cold air duct. I Def dont want it under the wheel well.

ddub 06-17-05 03:22 PM

Why not? Mine is right next to the headlight motor on the passenger side, much better than sucking in hot engine bay air!

Good clutch
Light flywheel
Weight reduction
Better suspension/tires
Standalone
Custom intake manifolds (if you're really talking about what could be done, ditch stock manifolds and build a custom one)
Bigger port
Turbo or supercharger or nitrous, done correctly
Synthetic fluids
LSD with say 4.33 or ratio
List goes on and on and on.

How serious are you really about what you can do? I mean there's tons of options out there, just depends on what you want, how much money you have, and how much time you're willing to spend.

Camrann 06-17-05 03:44 PM

Yah under the wheel well. What about when it rains?

You get a free internal steam cleaning. ;)

Camrann 06-17-05 04:44 PM

hahaha

Who cares? Are you afraid water is going to be sucked up into the egnine? To do that the filter would need to be completely submerged, and water doesn't exactly like to travel up hill. For it to even be submerged in water my bumper would have to be under water too, if that's happening I'm already screwed in other ways. And finally, rotaries don't hydrolock like pistons, an example would be that some people purposefully have water sucked into the engine to clean it. I was talking to a local old rotary racer/engine builder, though, that told me a rotary can still hydro lock, though I've never seen or heard it happen.

Camrann 06-17-05 09:41 PM

well thats good. Maybe i will do that then. Any tips on routing it there?

please note that you may have to re-oil your filter (if it's an oil-type filter) more often if you have it in a location that is external and exposed to the outside environment...other than water really is not an issue
