after 2 days of pulling fuses and cleaning plugs, i was about to give up and Jesse James this ride...but today i finally got around to trying the ATF trick and it started on the first try....i dont understand it, but who cares !!
Now, just 2 quick questions about this trick...
A-) how long will the effects of the ATF last...as in quick restarting
B-) my car was idling around 1100 with the screw on the UIM all the way down, now that i finally got it restarted i had to reset it to idle at 750-800, is this a good thing?

That's terrible advice. If his car is idling at 1100, then something is wrong.

His high idle is probably due to a vacuum leak.

i know somobody who did ATF and it lasted him a year and i belive it was still running when he took it out

ok, i would agree with that myself, i just dont get why it changed after i did the atf trick... when i got the car ( 3-4 weeks ago) it idled at 14-1500. from looking on here and seeing that good idle speed was 750 i made an attempt to lower it, i turned the little screw down all the way but it only took it down to 1100. Now today, i did the atf trick, it didnt even want to idle until i got out and turned it back up, restarted it and now it seems to run ok at 750-800.... now i am not disagreeing with you that it is a vacuum leak, but do you have any ideas where to start looking for which hose? btw, this is my first 7.

I'm just assuming vacuum leak...90% of the time, that's the cause of high idles...Best way I have seen to solve vacuum leaks is to simply replace every vacuum hose.

After you did the ATF thing, did you change the plugs? They will most likely be dead after burning up ATF. Also, you need to change the oil.

they were brand new plugs and i had planned on changing the oil anyway, i didnt realize NOT to use synthetic blend oil

you can use synthetic oil

if you installed the plugs before you did the atf trick you will probably need a new set again...

about the oil, i heard somewhere on here that for the older engines that you outta run 20w 50 with about a quart of MMO, now i dont take everything i hear as gospel but....i am new to rotarys
and with that statement, i want to thank everyone who has helped me out, its nice to see people with similar intrests helping each other, you guys rock... if i hadnt found this forum, i wouldve taken this car back by now.

is the car fully warm? it should idle at 1500 for the first 5-10 mins untill fully warm then it drops to 750.

if you try to set it to 750 when cold it'll just stall when it's warm and trys to drop.

wow... didn't know that.... but it should be able to hold its self at 1500 right? because I have to manually hold the gas down and keep it at 1000-1500 for about 3-5mins afterwards it idles fine at 750. (which is why I didnt think I had bad compression at first)
