testing headlight switch.

so im trying to test my retractor on the switch because my headlights wont go down. i read in the archive how to rebuild it but couldnt get much out of just trying to test it to see if that is the actual problem. and the damn FSM confuses the hell out of me.

anyone have a link that explains it for me? or if you know off the top of your head just how to test the switch.

I'd look first at the relay & the relay connector.

In the factory manuals, it's in the "body electrical" section.

You can navagate to my on-line copy from the link in my sig.

the headlight output of the switch is a ground.

If the switch is functioning correctly there will be a ground on the Red/White at the switch and White/Blue at the dimmer relay when the headlight switch is in the Headlights ON position.

There will be 12 volts on the wire at any other time.

If the headlight switch does not switch ground onto the Red/White when the headlight switch is in the Headlights ON position, then the switch either does not have ground on the black wire of the switch, or the switch is bad.

I do have rebuilt headlight switches as well as show headlight switches in stock at my website/store (mazdamark.com) if it turns out you need a new switch.
