Terrible 10th Anniversary paint...

I'm preparing to paint my engine bay. I can't remember if the culprit for the 10ae's awful appearance was the paint or if it was the primer....

If its the paint, I'll just scuff and spray. If its the primer, I'll have to blast and spray.

Can anyone verify which was the problem?

Thanks,
Steve C.

is your exterior in bad shape too?? i heard that the primer is very thick and holds up over time very well.. good luck.

I suppose it depends. If there's rust and bubbling, then you'll have to strip some areas and prime. But if there's no rust, just bad oxidation or yellowing, then you should simply be able to sand and paint.

well, on the 10ae's the paint is famous (infamous) for
peeling and flaking off. The primer seems to stick to the
metal just fine (I have no rust I can see). Question is
why the peeling and flaking? Paint's fault, or primer's fault?

- my primer looks great, btw. Its holding up very well.

I would sand everting with 400 grit, and apply a sealer. Thinned down PPG DP-40 Would be my recomendation.
I would also rinse with a Silicone remover berfore painting
