The temp sensor sender is located just below and fwd of the oil filter. One single wire goes to it. Yellow and red stripe, I think. Bullet connector.. Not to be confused with the oil sender unit close by that has a single wire connector that slides on the oil sender unit.

and what is the significance(sp) of the one near the coolant cap???

and how would you know you need a new one is it noticeable just by looking at it or just repalce it hopeing for the best.

The one near the coolant cap (assuming your coolant cap is not on the radiator but near the water pump) is for a electric fan. If you have a sensor there I assume you have a small electric fan in front of the radiator.

The question is: does the water sensor in the picture provided above have the wire on it???? If it has the wire on it, what does the water temp gauge read?? Probably does not read anything according to your first post.

If it reads nothing with the wire connected, then turn the key to ON, then temporarily hold the wires metal connector to the engine block. If the needle starts to rise....I'd say the sensor, not the gauge is bad. If it does nothing when the connectors bare metal is held to the block with the key to ON, then...........well, write back and tell us what happened.

If the wire is connected to the sensor, and the gauge reads nothing with the key to on.....rap on the combination meters plastic face and see what happens.

I presently have a volt gauge that does not read on my N/t/tubo, and I can rap on the face of the combination meter and it comes to life. I'm a lazy person. I know how to fix it. Just don't wanna. Got a weed whacker to fix first. 9am deadline.
