Temp Gauge
 

I know I post a lot of questions, but this is my first one, and I'm interested in learning as much as I can. Anyways, I posted earlier about the ADD COOLANT buzzer coming on. I'm bleeding it as we speak, and still in the process. My question is, when that buzzer was going off on that 6 hour drive I made when I brought it home, the Temp Gauge just showed it half-way between hot and cold. Is it possible my Temp gauge isn't working right, and if not, what should I do to check it?

half way in between hot and cold is good, thats the normal operating temp.

right, but with my add coolant light and buzzer coming on, a lot of people say thats due to the coolant in the engine being low. So if that was low for 6 hours, wouldn't the temp have gotten hotter on the gauge?

1/2 is normal for s5's, 1/3 is s4. although my s4 always ran about 1/2.

it mightve gotten a little hotter, but probably not enough to damage anything. once you get to 3/4 and full hot its not good for your motor

Double check your single wire that connects to the radiator. If that is disconected it will cause your buzzer to stay on.

yeah..my s4 and s5 run 1/2.. :S and on the s4 the buzzard always comes on..i dont know why..

If you really want accurate put in an aftermarket coolant temperature gauge.

My S4 runs right at the bottom line right now (winter) and about 1/6th to 1/4th of the way up in summer.

where would I find that wire that connects to the radiator? I think it may be a lose connection, because now, I will do nothing different, and the buzzer will come on for a few seconds then go off, and then come on, and go off, its very sporadic, but really has no relation to anything I do. If its a lose connection, I need to know which wire it is, is it actually on the radiator, or is it by the little bleeding hole by the place I would fill the radiator?

Should be right on top, single wire.
