Tein question
I am thinking about selling my setup (Ground control coilovers/caster/camber plates) and getting one of Teins coilover kits.....
Tein HE for about $1200 complete with upper pillowball mounts or Tein HA for about $1000 and $300 or so for upper pillowball mounts. Any suggestion? I found springs are same in both kits. What are differences between kits and which one i should get (and WHY? over other one) thanks |
i don't know much about tien except it's supposed to be excellent quality, but i do know your car looks a lot like mine :D

The only problem with the tein kit IMHO is the upper piloow blocks are made of Al, and can easily be distorted. Thats why K2RD went to steel upper mounts. John

I don't think there's much advantage in going from the GC full setup to a Tein setup. I have the GC conversion on w/ the eibach 2.5's (forgot which rate I chose) on KYB's and decided on Tein for the pillowball mounts bc we deal direct w/ Tein at the shop (i.e. mounts were CHEAP). I think Tein's stuff is really well made and takes abuse (looks good too) but I do NOT like the Flex system. It makes too much noise in most cars we've installed them in. They knock around on some cars, yet are silent on others. As far as a newbie buying full coilovers Tein is a great value and a quality product (cept for those Flex's but I think they are re-vamping the Flex line). The Tein exec's were at the shop last week for their annual visit to US dealers...we got some cool stuff including another plush Dempachi (their little masscott hehe). They have a nice dealer goody bag every year - the lil things in life- :)

Opinions on the dampers in the Teins vs. using a KYB AGX, etc. in a GC or K2RD setup? To me this seems like it might be the biggest difference.

The Tein's are more adjustable than the KYB's though one doesn't need that much adjustability for dampening on a street car. I don't think it's really worthwhile with the setup you currently have unless the struts are toast. KYB's are great pieces (even the non-adjustable ones) and they make many other companies struts/shocks and coilovers (like HKS for example).

I wasn't very clear. What I ment was that one would think the Teins dampers would be stiffer. That's sort of conjecture. Any ideas?

stiffer is a relative term bc they have more adjustability...contact Tein, they will gladly give you the specs for spring rate/damper.

I've been looking at TIEN for the past couple of weeks. I ruled out the Flex line early and was wondering weather to go with the RA's or HA's. I do mostly autocross and drive the car hard on the street. One day I plan on making my car a RoadRace/Street car but that's probably too far ahead to consider it. Can anyone tell me, what is the system I need?

HA and HE springs are identical (according to Tein.com)

Call Tein USA @ 562-633-7387...I bet the HA is more adjustable w/ more aggressive shock valving.
