tech question, new motor 88 TII, possible detination or ....?? help me out pips

car: 88 Turbo II

I have 2K miles on a new Mazda reman. block. upgrades: Bonez downpipe + catalic converter. and Greddy Exreme cat back system.

my problem: 3000 RPMs and up, at higher boost the engine tends to knock (not rhythmic, but inconsistantly). This does not happen all the time, but enough to tell me to lay off the accelerator.

I was told that this happens because of my free flow exaust allows too much boost and therefore causes detination. I know this is not good news and I can kill this fresh block. I am about to purchase Bonez intake and possibly fuel cut defencer.

If somebody can directly relate or understand this, please help out and maybe suggest the next step of upgrading/adjusting.
Keep in mind, I am trying to stay with stock fuel system.

thanks
E

Not being familiar with a T2, I am not much of an authority. But, I would start by ensuring that my timing is accurate.

I've checked the timing when I first installed the block. It runs and idles like a champ.
Thanks for the input.

if you don't have a fcd now, then you are not running too much boost and should not be detonating. how have you driven the car those 2k miles? did you break it in correctly?

check the timming. what octane gas are you using?

FCD??? sorry I guess I am new to abreviations here.
I have broken in correctly. first 1000, no boost, and no revs above 3000RPMs. after 1K, I've done the oil change. I run 93 octane only.

FCD>>> fuel cut defencer.

am I slow or what today.......

Check your spark plugs wires - they might be in the wrong positions.

wouldn't the wires in the wrong positions cause the car to run rough? It runs extremelly well and smooth the way it is now. I will check, thanks for the input.

You'd be surprised... :)

I've checked the timing and all, everything is good.
but..........
I know this is going to sound stupid and obvious, but I found that one of the tubes for oil metering pump does not have any oil in it. (flashing a light at them you can see dark streams of oil) I checked up and it is a rear inlet port.
Looks like I am tearing my stuff apart to check up on the oil inlet.......
If any of you incountered a knock problem and oilmetering pump failure please let me now..... thanks E
