tach and temp gauge
ive recently picked up an 89 GXL and i havent driven it that much, but the whole time ive been driving it the temperature gauge isnt working and now the last few times ive switched on the car my tach has stopped working... i dont drive the car much because im about to replace the throttle body but i was wondering if anyone knew if it was just a wiring problem or what else could be wrong with it?

make sure the harnass didn't come half unhooked or that you don't have any week connections
that's the exact problem my buddy was having |

I second that. Check the harness connection at the ECU. That will make your cluster behave strangely.

Key ON. Have someone hold the water themperature connector to gnd. Like the block. Only for three or four seconds at most. As THEY hold it agaiinst the block (metal to metal), the temp gauge rises. Don't let it peg out on the top.
Then start the engine and see if the tach is working or not. MaKe sure the battery is fully charged or the ECU MIGHT put the TRAIL coil into a fail safe mode and it won't cause the tach to work. Neither item is related to the other unless the connectors inbetween the combination meter and them is/are open. |
ha actually before i read this i found out only one of my trailing coils were plugged in one of my friends forgot to plug it in when he helped me switch it out but ill definitely try with the temp gauges, thanks guys!
