t2 swap

i just required a 88 gxl with a blown motor and planning to do a t2 sawp. since the gxl model already comes with the limited slip differential i need to know if i can use the t2 drive shaft or if i still need to get one fabricated?

red87tll 05-20-06 04:32 PM

the t2 drive shaft will not bolt to the n/a rear end. best bet is to pick up a t2 rear end.

duno1818 05-20-06 04:37 PM

can i get one made to fit the n/a lsd or would it put to much stress on it from all the extra power?

MAZDATRIX sells them. I bought one from them. OR you can go to a local shaft shop and have one made. Bring the correct length dimensions if you do.

n/a rear end will take plenty of power and torque. just dont use slicks.

same w/ what they said above, mazdatrix has a premade one for t2 tranny > n/a rearend

LOL

Yeah, it's called a driveaxle for an automatic.

I thought the automatics were just a bit short. The Mazdatrix one will be the exact item you need.

I'll disagree with that remark. It is not a automatic drive shaft that they sell.

Maybe

But it was their head mechanic that advised me the Automatic drive axle would do the job.

I'm just saying that they make a drive shaft for a car that is converted from n/a to turbo, leaving the n/a rear end in the car. Looking at the site, even the aftermarket drive shaft they sell for the conversion has a different part number than the aftermarket one they make for a auto.

If they were the same part, why the different part numbers. Of course they could be the same part with different numbers and I'm just clueless. When I remove mine this summer to lube the u joints I'll take a close look at the length. I've been wrong before.
