T2 hesitation problems.

Ok i did search on this topic but couldn't find anything usful. Anyhow i just picke dup my first turbo rx7, i've had 4 n/a's varying from a first gen gsl-se to my last car, which was rebuilt streetported and all kinds of goodies. Anyhow I just bought a 87 T2 with 82,xxx miles with only 6,000 on the car. I went to pick the car up today, put a new battery in started up idled great seemed to run great. Started to drive the car home and shit thing has nothing down low, and I'm posative that it's not just cause it's off boost. When starting from a stop on a hill the car will sputter for a minute hesitate then start to accelrorate and then boost but it hesitates real bad first. The previous owner just installed a walbro 255lph fuel pump, could i just be running insanly rich? I also imagine it's a grounding problem. The previous owner ran a random ground to the intake manifold, i decided to disconect this to see what would happen, the car wouldn't turn over. Hooked it back up and it started up fine. . I check the stock ground from the firewall to the rear iron and it looks like shit i will replace that tomorrow and remove the ghetto fab ground by the PO. Also the car will not rev past 4,000 rpm like the secondaries arn't comming online. I checked and they are hooked up but they definetly arn't comming on what would cause this? I need help guys this car seems like it's going to be a ton of fun i just want to figure this shit out. Thanks for the help. oh here's a mod list if you were wondering.

-K&N Performance Air Filter with 3" Turbo Inlet Duct
-3" Racing Beat performance exhaust with high-flo cat to RB Y pipe
-DIY bov
-Fuel-Cut Defense Chip
-Walboro 255lph in tank fuel pump
-8mm NGK plug wires, 4 new NGK Platinum leading and trailing spark plugs -Removed PS/AC

Thanks for the help

if it makes you feelbetter i seem tobe having the same problem with my 87. At 3800-4000 seems tobe looking for somthing its not getting. front end jumps down andjust doesnt rev like i think it should.

Nilrem youre problem is different, check the faq, thats the 3800 hesitation. I think a ground issue but goto the faq at the top i know its in there. But sorry dom i dont know hwat your problem is.

Check for vacuum leaks, check your spark plugs see what condition they look to be in and replace them anyways...Check your air Cleaner, run it without for a quick run see if it helps. Also change your fuel FILTER. If none of that helps check your battery ground and ignition components make sure both IGNITORS are firing and that your distributor cap and rotor are both still good. Also check to make sure your distributor does not have any play in the shaft.

well it has a crank angle sensor not distributor, plugs are fresh, no vaccum leaks. I feel like it's deeper than that anyhow. I feel like if i am able to get the secondaries to come on the hesitation will go away i feel like they are tied together. Come on guys I really want to get this thing going correctly. Thanks

up, redid the stock firewall to rear iron ground this morning, no difference. Maybe my pressure sensor is bad? On the boost gauge it rarly ever comes up about 0, but it is definetly boosting. I switched the pressure sensor line to the nipple with a vaccum cap on it and it read all the way up to the 40 mark on the gauge almost, seemed like it was reading correctly. Hopfully i will get an aftermarket boost gauge today, along with an a/f gauge. But why wont my secondaries come on! I have a set of 680's out of my gsl-se that i'm going to put in tonight. hopfully the injectors that are in there are just bad, we'll see. Do you guys think it runs so rough down low because of the walbro 255? I know some of you can help. Thanks

So no one can help?

Dom_C 06-25-05 08:47 PM

All the knowledge on this forum, i'm very surprised that no one can help. Come on guys, i'm pretty sure the low end hesitation is due to running rich.. .no big deal that can be delt with later. But whywont my secondaries come on? everything is grounded. I'm now in the process of removing all emisions and putting in the 680 secondary injectors. will somone please give me some ideas. thanks

CHECK COMPRESSION first.....then check the voltage on your Coils and Ignition, Check for improper ground attachments, If you want to upgrade your Throttle Body i have heard of removing the third butterfly. Are you sure your car is not running hot?

capn 06-26-05 09:15 AM

def check your grounds make sure that they are all thier and if not add your own. and as far as that fuel pump goes i would check the filter on the pump because if that has not been replaced it will cause very bad hesitation and bucking. and for not going over 4000 sounds to be somehting with the secondary injectors and/or bad grounds but just try grounding first and then go from there. and it may be running too rich like you think.

SUPEROTARYPOWER 06-26-05 11:35 AM

When the car is hesitating you should check your RPM's an electrical problem would cause the car eventually to reach the desire RPM range while Skipping its way up and a Fuel problem will more either POP when RICH and SPUTTER or if running lean the car will not bog and pop go it will more POP POP POP POP in a semi-steady rpm range. I hope i explained that good.
