T2 daily driver?
 

hi guys,

just curious. can an S5 T2 (or any T2 for that matter) be a daily driver?

i live in vancouver, canada...its sometimes snows, rains abit....etc.

being that its a good sound car...can it be a daily driver? if so, who does this in the forum?

Does it look like an alcohol dragster? If it does then no. Otherwise they are mass produced sports cars meant for driving. What do you think?

RX-7's don't necessarily like Canadian winters too much. But then again, you are in Vancouver, where it doesn't get to -40 all that often, unlike here.

Not sure I would put my TII through an Ottawa winter.

since u have 3 cars and live in nice and warm texas u dont care. if i bought this T2, id have to sell my gxl.

lemme ask you, smarty, would u drive ur T2 in -5 with wet-snow falling?

Its a massproduced car its supposed to hold up to every day shit. So my answer is yes. And the cold is onlyl half the battle. Have you ever spent 4-6 hours in bumper to bumper in 107* weather in an RX-7? I have. Its called Texas. ;)

what about rain and other falling stuff...is the intercooler/engine/turbo in danger with that scoop?

I doubt it is a danger in the rain/snow. That scoop is for the IC not the intake itself. But if you get a ton of leaves and mud in there somehow then that is bad. But the IC has ducting that directs the air to the rear.

Ha, I bet 1987rx7 has never drivin a car in snow. Esspecially a Turbo II, I live in washington and I tried taking my car out in the snow and nothing, The damn thing was way to uncontrolable to safely drive in the snow... But thats just my opionion..

He did not ask about driving difficulties he asked if it was a "sound" car. It is. PERIOD. :-p

I drove stock S4 TII whole winter, i really enjoyed it, almost 3000 miles, lots of them in snow/freezing condition. No problems as long as u have good winter tires and some experience ;)

Even had to make few events on snow/ice :)

I don't see why a TII would be any worse they a N/A. Just stay off the boost. I have driven an N/A in the snow/rain, and it did fine (just have to be a little more careful) I haven't driven my TII in the snow, but I think its even better in the rain (must be because of the new all season radials on my TII, where as I had almost bald summer tires on my -se)

since ive never owned a turbo car, let alone a T2....how do u stay off boost?

keep the r's low and throttle semi closed. i live in wisconsin and i thought my last tII was one of the best cars i ever drove in the winter. my current one was good but i had a winter beater that i drove the better half of the time. very predictable and well balanced. drive with caution like u should in bad weather and with good tires shouldnt be a problem. you may want to disable the sub zero start assist if it isnt already though. seems to cause more problems than not.

i live in BC too and drove my car in the snow. it was a little hairy on the highway with the snow but just stay light on the go pedal and you'll be fine. when it snows in the winter i suggest going to an empty parking lot and finding out exactly what you can and can't do

I can understand why the question is being asked. A brief look at the forum would be enough to convince most people that TIIs are timebombs. :) If your car is half decent then you'll be fine.

It was the coldest winter I remember and mine never had a problem. Full TB mod in -10C (14F) it was fine too.

drove my TII ever day since I got it including 1 michigan winter. While I am not going to drive it in the winter again (salt=rust!) I didn't have any problems driving in relatively deep snow on directional kumho ecsta supra 712's, and if you've seen those tires, you know they are not made for the snow ;)

My TII was previously in Minnesota. A lot of rust covering heat shields and stuff on the bottom but with sandpaper that is all coming off easily.
It apparently did just fine.

I park in the winter though, I'm in the interior which has brutal weather compared to Vancouver.

hmm... i've spent one winter with my TII... we get a good foot to 2 ft of snow... and i drove my rx7 just fine with about 20% tread remaining. It'll drive fine if u know how to drive in the winter, and it'll slide when u want it to slide. That's all.
