Swapping driveshaft yoke

I need to put the NA auto front (trans side) yoke on my NA Manual driveshaft. Any tips on doing this or could I bring both of them to a driveline shop and have them do it with no problems?

Isn't the actual drive shaft a different length?

jaggermouth 06-13-11 02:18 AM

If I read the correct specs, the TII shaft is a larger diameter and 966mm long while the manual NA is 967mm long

Wait, which is it? T2 or auto?

From my understanding: T2 shaft is thicker with a bigger flange/plate at the rear, and Auto shafts are the same as NA manuals except shorter.

Also, I think it is possible to change the front between different ones, but it sounds like you need to be handy with welding/grinding [from reading the thread on changing the U-joints]

It would help is we knew what you were trying to accomplish. If you're trying to mate a TII tranny to a NA rear end, Then just use a driveshaft for an automatic RX7. Sounds like you already know the yoke is the same for an automatic transmission and a TII transmission.

Auto driveshaft is a smidge short, but servicable. The best is to simply buy one made by Mazdatrix that eliminates the "smidge".

yup, tii trans to na rear. And it's not just a smidge, its 53mm shorter and has killer driveline vibration/chatter.
And Derek, the auto has a TII front spline with the NA rear flange, just is too short. I might just get my auto extended...

That 2 inch / 53mm difference is a lot, and I wouldn't suggest the auto shaft to anyone.

In my case, I just went with the Mazdatrix driveshaft, but I know others have had them custom made. You'll probably have to shop around to find a place a) willing to do it & b) do it for a reasonable rate.

Yeah, ive been using the auto shaft and I'm scared, but now I finally have the money n such to start getting proper parts. Really didn't want to spend $300 on a piece of pipe with some joints on it haha.
Has anyone got an auto shaft extended the 2"?
