Swap Question

Ok i have an 87 n/a and i wanna swap my engine... The thing is i want to go faster but my body is in minttttt condition so a sawp came to my mind... I found mounts that fit a 20B and 13B-Rew motors... Theres a store like 10 min from my house that sells j-spec stuff and there asking 2500 for a complete 13B-Rew, Tranny and Ecu... but i would still need the harness... also i found a place that would do a complete swap and rebuilt for 3500 thats 6000 total... i was wondering if that would be worth it? I mean how could you go wrong with 255 hp? and with mods get 400 easy... i know im going to hear from 100 people "Just buy a Turbo II and its probly cause they didnt read the whole thread"

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 12-22-04 08:32 PM

It would be more enjoyable to do it urself.

LookThatsMe 12-22-04 08:38 PM

thats tru i mean i could swap it myself i just need a turbo II tranny cause the FD wont fit i just dont wanna mess with wiring harness

MRX_Rotary 12-22-04 08:39 PM

Have those guys streetport it while they are rebuilding it, if they know what they're doing.

BklynRX7 12-22-04 10:28 PM

That swap and rebuild price seems a bit high. I if I were you i would remove the current engine myself and only get charged for a rebuild and install. I got my engine rebuild, housings replaced with brand new ones from mazda, new used end plates and installation for $3500.

LookThatsMe 12-22-04 10:44 PM

yea thats true well my friend is selling a 94 fd twin turbo for 4500-4000 cuz its been hit in the front left and he wants to get rid of it the engine is in perfect condition... so im thinking of buying it and use the enigine, tranny, ecu, and harness... and strip the rest and part it out and sell it on ebay which i should get like half back... tranny is great, engine 53000 original miles, motor is pushing out around 310hp

damn im planning on getting all the parts, than the tools, and finally the expense of dedicating days of my time to fininsh this swap.
looking for a good used 13bt and misc. stuff. got entire rear end including tranny from sumbody in this forum for 685, 1100 for ecu, t2 hood, cluster, clutch, stater. (still waiting for my flywheel and starter)
still got another 1000 to go at least until i could finally start this project.

i was about to depend on independent rotary mechanics to perform the swap for me but they began trying to ripp me off so then i decided i rather put the money into tools i could use to do the swap myself. at the same time i'll grow with the experience i gained from performing it. i know its not gonna be easy(yes im newb) but looking foward to all i can learn about my car.

rs_1101 12-23-04 03:52 AM

for 6 big ones.. thats gonna be one fast rotary. especially if its an 87 se or something thats a featherweight to begin with.. man youll be embarrasing porsches

300zx 12-23-04 04:25 AM

that sure seems like alot of money. For 6000$ you could make more power then 255hp altho you would have to alot by your self. We built a 6port turbo for cheaper then then that and have 350hp or so but i cant say forsure because we never had time to dyno it last year. But again we did everything by are selfs. And for else then 6000$ with a built motor.

LookThatsMe 12-24-04 12:39 AM

i could do the 6Port turbo also but dont i need a lower compression to run the turbo without blowing my motor?

MRX_Rotary 12-24-04 12:48 AM

No, you can use S4 N/A rotors without blowing your motor if you use less boost. But, you'll need to upgrade your fuel system, and use a fuel controller. Heck, it's in the FAQ.

I would call BS on that.

Typically you would be looking at $10K + to do a 13BREW swap into a FC if you are not doing the work yourself.

Anyone claiming they could do it for $6K has no clue of what it takes.

Furthermore anyone wanting to even do a 13BREW swap into a FC is wasting time and money, when you can get simular HP levels from using a S5 13BT and have a bolt in situation.

Even suggesting a 13BREW into a FC shows a general lack of understanding on a FC and rotary engines and engine swaps in general.

Perhaps you should read this: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/SWAP/FD3S/rew.html

and this:

Also in another post you claimed that the FD has front end damage. Any to the frame? Otherwise you could just start with that and for $6000 grand Im sure the entire thing could be repaired and you don't have to yank the engine and part it out,

Even though Im an FC fan, I think an FD may be a better choice to what you want, alot simpler and for 4 to 5 grand I dont think you can go wrong.

LookThatsMe 12-24-04 02:42 PM

no the frame isnt demaged just under new jersey gay laws an car that is hit in the front hard is a unrepairable and the insurance has to take it to a salvage yard... which my friend never reported the accident so he wants to sell it as a parts car

LookThatsMe 12-24-04 02:43 PM

Sorry Mark i mean the engine is 2500 and i would need a s5 TII Tranny, and an FD Ecu or Haltech

Aaron Cake 12-24-04 03:13 PM

I think you need to do some basic research before you ask these questions. There's a 20B forum here that probably has all your answers with a few quick searches.

LookThatsMe 12-24-04 03:20 PM

i said a 13B-Rew i know there is a 20B forum but im not looking for a 20B swap cuz i dont have around 20k to spend for the swap

Kingofl337 12-24-04 03:27 PM

if the car is clean I'd just sell it and take your 6k and buy an FD.

Aaron Cake 12-24-04 03:46 PM

Your original post was very confusing do to the poor sentence structure, abysmal punctuation and just general confusion. I had thought that you decided on the 20B.

Regardless, there is plenty of info to be found by searching for "13B REW". This has been covered in great detail many times before.
