Swap auto to manual

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 13B and swapping the tranny to a manual. Because of money issues i decided just to drop in the rebuilt motor with the auto tranny still in there. When i have enough money to buy the 5 speed and all its parts, will i have to take the engine out again? Thanks

You should be able to use the counterweight of the automatic with a lightweight flywheel. I would recommend getting new master and slave cylinders, new throughout and pilot bearings, just shortening your driveshaft rather than getting a new one, and get the transmission and pedals from a descent junk yard.

I think the trick of doing it with the engine still in the car will be the flywheel. I did it when I put a factory rebuilt engine in.

man I would suggest if you have a bone stock 88 NA you just buy another 5 speed NA because all the time spent swapping this stuff over and parts/money spent it does not come out as a advantage to you. Their are to many 5 speeds for sale out their to go swapping it around. Plus NA's don't sell for much more than 1500 these days for s4's. IMHO its not worth the time.

that's probably true. I did my '91 vert about 4 years ago. I was sick of getting automatic rebuilds since I was autocrossing it. Those got expensive, it was cheaper to switch to manual then do another $2k rebuild. With a bone stock car it's a harder choice.

get a parts car with no engine but witha 5 speed that way you should have most of the parts you need.
