Supercharging parts list?

Ok I have searched on this topic a fair amount first off so don't tell me to do that. My question isn't if you can do it or if it there is a kit or some shit. And I am not asking about money and or time here ok.

My question is if you were to do it would you need something more or other than what I am about to list:

Head Unit - Vortech V-9 or something like it

Mounting- fab up a way to mount it ( I am a mechanical engineering student so I do have access to a fab shop) also you would need all the tubing and such, pulleys and belt and a bypass valve

Oil - t coupler to mount a line before the oil pressure sender, line to SC, line to oil pan, punch and tap the oil pan for oil return

Fuel - larger secondary injectors, better fuel pump like a walbro, and a S-AFC

a boost gauge

and for drivetrain you could get a TII tranny with automatic drive shaft? don't know about that one or same tranny but new clutch

I just came up with that stuff now but anything to add to the shopping list?

This is just coming up with everything you need to do it not consider time or money. I don't think you need a aftercooler with a vortech at boost levels that aren't all that high like the stock amount from a turbo?

ok time for you to flame away  or be helpful

I'd suggest running an intercooler with a supercharger if you're building your own kit, it will make them far more efficient. I know you didn't ask for a kit, but you might want to visit www.atkinsrotary.com, they're very helpful people there.

I know a lot of the vortech kits for other cars don't come with aftercoolers. I have been reading up on www.superchargersonline.com and they state "In general we would not recommend intercoolers on supercharged engines with less than 8-9psi of boost, as the benefits will not be substantial." but there is always something like water injection to stop detonation or maybe trying to addapt the intercooler from a TII maybe but that adds cost and extra parts (I know I didn't want to talk about cost but I am trying to keep it fairly simple)

I think the temps added by a vortech supercharger are not anywhere close to the same as a turbo, which requires an intercooler, and I think it is less than the other types of superchargers such as roots or screw but I could be wrong there

Don't forget the fuel pressure riser. Its purpose is to ensure that the fuel pressure in the injectors stays a set psi over the manifold pressure (the air which it sprays fuel into). As boost rises, your fuel pressure needs to rise the same amount for your ECU to give accurate fuel discharge signals to the injectors. If you don't use a fuel pressure riser you will likely run lean under boost and you know what that means . . . *pop* and :tear:

I want this too, I know there has to be some way to just adapt a properly sized unit normally used on a chevy v6 or something with brackets to fit our cars. I would really love the simple type like that kit they used to sell.

Ok I looked on the supercharger site and see many sizes, in Vortec for example what trim would be right for our cars?? There are like 10 different trims then there are dozens of applications from each one.

if you go to www.vortechsuperchargers.com you can see what cars they generally use the different superchargers for. I am not too sure which one would meet the goals of the rx-7 considering the amount of HP and boost is well within the range of all of them, but I would imagine one that fits our car well would need to be able to obtain a high rpm, compact, and I high effieciency and air flow rate, but the vortech units are kinda pricey and since they all meet the amount that the engine could be boosted they all would probably do. If some one has a suggestion of one please by all means correct me

as for the fuel pressure riser did the TII come with one? also I was looking over aaron cake's conversion to a turbo and I didn't see him mention one in there, does the S-AFC take care of the need for this since the ECU isn't controlling the injectors?

Also connection to the throttle body might be difficult and require a custom mount. Oh and any suggestion on the tubing coming to and from the SC as to what to use cause I read that the dia. of the intake? 4" ? piping is too large for easy mandrel bending? not sure on that last statement

Novacaine 08-09-03 04:19 AM

I guess also going with the same size primary injectors as the TII would help as well or wouldn't that be needed if you had like 720 secondaries because the SC would have similar boosting as the TII from the centrifugal type?

on a side note, jonequest you are the man with those non pop up lights and that cool ass paint job update that shit with pics when you get it all painted

One of the forum members came up with a list(clone of his Nelson/Mariah).

I'll see if I can upload the excel spreadsheet that I downloaded. Can't find the website anymore.
