Supercharger Arrived!

I got my supercharger today. It is for NA 13b I will be installing in a Karmann Ghia. The carb and other fittings should be here in the next few weeks. I will post some pictures as the work progresses.

SonicRaT 09-30-04 04:43 PM

70ghiavert 09-30-04 04:45 PM

Yes.

SonicRaT 09-30-04 04:48 PM

Doh! Why doesn't anybody like whipples!? :) Get some pics of that setup though, I definatly want to see this!

thevanillaninja6 09-30-04 07:55 PM

I wanna see this car!! I demand pics!

BlaCkPlaGUE 09-30-04 08:02 PM

Man everyone is goin crazy on the SC setups it seems!

But then again, if I had the cash, I'd defenitly do the same thing, buy the camden...

I thinnk im gonna start saving my money :)

I'd personally like to S/C my FC, but then again a TII swap is just as much if not less than the job. Whatever floats your boat and tickles your pickle.

coldfire 09-30-04 09:09 PM

SC tickles my pickle

i like seeing people actually go through with this...so much more refreshing than everyone saying "Turbo it dude"

why a whipple? and maybe its cuz there's no one selling kits that use one :P

coldfire 10-01-04 12:05 AM

who needs a kit? :)

what would be some whipple type superchargers that could be used in an FC? for, let's say, a conservative power level, like 200-250 rwhp...

1600AX would work for those levels, easily. Think of that as an M62 Eaton blower.

2300AX would be better suited, and I'm going to pull numbers out of my rear end and say it could push over 400 rwhp properly done, with a monster torque curve (rotary wise :D). In an extreme setup, I'm sure much more then 400 is possible, but 400 could be done streetably. Not cheaply... just streetably. ;)

And a whipple wouldn't be any harder then doing a roots... just more expensive.. hell, you could adapt an atkins kit for it..

SonicRaT 10-01-04 12:49 AM

Simply because the whipple is so configurable, with all their various options/snouts/etc, it makes it fairly easy to setup, not to mention the damn efficiency, woowoo! Twin screw makes me happy. :)

It's a 71, but it is a Canadian car so there may be a few slight differences. The side mouldings are missing in the pic, but she does have them - just gotta put em on!

It's a neat car - but it needs a rotary! Right now it's the slowest..... car..... ever!

Hi:

Attached are a few pictures of the work in progress. I tried to install the engine but I need to modify the rear apron for the pulleys to have enough clearance. This weekend will be dedicated to the family so it will be next week before I complete the installation.

The supercharger is still in the box. I will install the pulleys and SC after the engine is in place.

Nick86 10-02-04 10:03 AM

Sweet!

Great project - keep us updated!

Very cool, but you might want to rethink the soldered plumbing. Those joints are gonna crack from all the vibrations and movment. there must be like 50 of them. What are you using for a water pump, that must be 10 gallons of coolant...Are you going to use a front mount oil cooler. ...Can you see around that radiator hood scoop, it's kinda big...j/k :) .post updates...I want to do a mid engine baja bug. Oh one more thing, what kind of power can the trans axle handle?
