check room fuse, illumination fuse, meter fuse. All under the dash by the Drivers Kick panel,in the Corner,
Is the Main FUSE OK?(engine bay)?
you may have done some Damage besides Fuses.Hopefully Hailers can see this thread and Pipe in.I'm not the Whiz on electricals.
Check threads on " hooked up battery Backwards".should get you some info through search.

The side lights and the meter lights don't work because of what was mentioned by ICEMARK above. The light switch itself is either burnt up or the PLUG that attaches to it is burnt up. Remove plug and LOOK.
The HEADLIGHTS and RETRACTOR work because when you turn the light switch ON, you are putting a GROUND on the headlight relay. No power is involved doing that.
When you put the light switch to ON you also put Power to a wire, which in turn puts power to the interior lighting. That power wire is cooked most likely. Remove the plug from the light switch and LOOK for burnt contacts in the plug. Those cooked wires will be located on one end of the plug.
You can prove the MAIN fuse is good just by putting the key to START. IF the starter turns over, then the Main fuse is good. Not a player in any form or fashion with your interior lighting problem.
