Sunroof options?

i've been seeing a lot of sunroof and moonroof threads lately - my sunroof works, somewhat. basically to open mine i have to push up and out towards the back while i press the button. from then on it slides back all the way, kinda slow, but it goes. closing it though is a whole other story, i have to stand on the door still guard things where the base of the seat is, and with my left hand i push the button, and my right hand pushes the rear of the sunroof forward, its a pain in the ass to say the least and i'd like to do something about it.

i pretty much want to take out my sunroof panel and all and the motor and replace it with just a piece of tinted glass shaped to the same specs as the top of the sunroof panel/area. i heard of a few people having these and i'm wondering where i could buy one? i'd probably have to make some kind of support for the glass to lay on and i'd have to make sure its watertight, with some kind of window stripping, not to mention i dont want it to open, just to lay there so that the sun comes through. what do you think? has it been done before and are there any sites out there that could help me?

Oh by the way, if you've seen the FB sunroof glass on ebay - thats what im talking about, but for a FC. just a regular piece of glass made to replace the FC's stock sunroof... it doesnt even have to open.

That has been done by a forum member lately, and sold under a group-buy. He had a piece of lexan cut to size to replace the metal panel. I think what you need to do is take out your sunroof assembly, and clean and re-grease the tracks. Im not going to lie, it is a HUGE pain in the ass to remove, but it makes a huge difference. My stock roof was doing the same thing( though maybe not as extreme) and the cleaing and re-greasing really works wonders. I used white lithium grease, and its still working well.

^ yup, i saw that group buy, im pissed that i missed out on it. the thing is i dont want to repair my sunroof, i know the tracks need to be cleaned but i really just want to ditch it and put in one like the guy had on the group buy, its more practical imo, looks great too. the problem is finding one.. anyone have an idea who else makes them?

hm, lexan panel....that's an interesting idea. My roof isn't working and it's rusty as hell. I was going to remove to sunroof mechanism and clean up the panel. The plan is to weld the panel back on w/o the mechanism to save weight and possibly stiffen the body.

But, a lexan panel would do, also. Plus, I can always paint the panel to match the car.

Thanks for the ideas folks :)

^ but that doesnt really solve my sunroofs malfunctioning, that will just give me a new panel... a lexan type glass thing like the group buy had is what i'm talking about, something that will completely replace the oem sunroof and its components - i guess the only way to get one is by looking for a used one, thanks though.
