Sunroof Issues

Seems like the cable/spring on the driver side has quit/gotten gunked up this past weekend, couldn't open the sunroof more than a inch before it got in a bind. I planned on cleaning all the parts and looking for broken parts this Saturday following a writeup on here and the FSM instructions. However it seems you have to open the sunroof atleast 3 inches or so to get the liner out to access the bolts, my sunroof won't open more than a inch manually or by the switches. Anyone know of any other methods to remove the assembly without having it open it?

You can remove the whole sunroof assembly by unbolting it from the inside of the car with the sunroof closed. This makes it easier to disassemble and clean. When you lubricate it afterwards, use a grease that is easily displaced, like lithium grease. Red and tacky has a tendency to cool and thicken, or harden up.

buy a tube of Shin Etsu grease, it makes the sunroof work.

if you do a little looking, honda uses it on everything

Would I just remove the entire head liner to achieve that then? I know the FSM and write up I found here has you removing just the liner on the sunroof portion itself.

Yup. Once you take out the headliner, you'll see the bolts that hold the sunroof bracket and motor in. Disconnect the electrical, unbolt, and out it comes. If you have a friend help hold it up, it makes it a lot easier.
