Summer coolant-water %

what do you guys run in the summer months? 60 water-40 coolant? 50-50? i would think more water could have cooler temps

not even sure what % is in there now, it started 50-50 for the winter, then i have added just plain water if it ever needed it over the last year

Turbo23 04-15-07 05:24 PM

70-30 water-coolant, or even 80-20

Aaron Cake 04-15-07 05:43 PM

Manual says just run 50/50. That's what I've always run.

I like a little more water than antifreeze. It doesnt get that cold here in CA

JStewart 04-15-07 07:14 PM

i run 70-30 in the summer

inflatablepets 04-15-07 07:17 PM

50% just like the manual says.

I'm running 50/50... well not "running" yet, but it's in there!

SpooledupRacing 04-15-07 08:53 PM

50/50 is recomended but if u are ina really hot place 70/30 would be greatr.. as long as u dont keep it like that when the temps get below freezing.

either way if u have a properly working cooling system (fan, t-stat, radiator) and your coolant is 50/50 u should have no problems

I run 0% water and 100% coolant.

Evans NPG+ with a non pressurized cooling system.

Turbo23 04-16-07 08:37 AM

I thought of running evans, but it seems such a pain to clear the system of water, and its flammable. A hill climb guy was running, and got a leak, car caught on fire quite quickly. Coolant is alot easier to get a hold of. And if your system is working correctly, you should have no problems

No, it's quite easy to clear the cooling system of water. "Just Follow Label Directions"

Nonsense. NPG is Propylene Glycol, the same base component as Sierra or Prestone Lo-Tox.

NPG+ is a blend of Propylene Glycol (see above) and Ethylene Glycol (see your current radiator)

If your hill-climbing-flame-spewing buddy blamed the NPG+, he was making excuses.

True, and it needs to be. You need to buy your standard coolant every xx,xxx miles, depending on whether or not you properly maintain your cooling system so it better be easily available.

I never need to buy coolant again.

My cooling system works properly and I have no problems with it. You just don't understand because you have no personal experience with the Evans coolant. It is certainly not for everyone. It will not cure problems with your cooling system. It works great for me.

I've always run 60-40 water - coolant and used distilled water after a good flush.
