Suggestions for what to plan out??? S4 T2

As of right now, I have finished the rebuild and put away some parts. Majority are suspension bits but I do have a full racing beat exhaust. As of right now, just doing the regular break in procedure and what not and looking to the future.

My goal is to be in the area of 300-350hp. Working with a budget of about $4000, where should I start? I really like the BNR systems being that they are bolt on with supporting mods, and they sound really feasible for what I want to accomplish.

So...
BNR stage 2 turbo?
injectors?
EMS? Rtek?
FPR?

I guess my question is what should I add to my shopping list?

I've seen fc3spro's tech section so please don't post to it. I am asking more along the lines of specifics, like what size of injectors to support the turbo?

rx7 FC TII 02-02-10 11:52 PM

if your lookin for that power go with a BNR stage 3. also i wouldnt go with rtek. its awesome for what it is but my experience i should have just gone haltek and be done with it. hooking up a palm pilot can really be a pain in the ass to tune with and really does limit you. and i have the 2.1

I am a blank slate as far as tuning goes in relation to timing and all that. I've still got a lot to learn.

Why would you argue that a stand alone is the way to go? I've looked through the Dyno and time slip section of this forum and saw that people have made the power I am looking for with the Rtek?

I've read that its limited? But in that regard, I don't know why?

I'm not trying to disrespect you in anyway, just trying to gather information for myself.

well rx7_FC_TII mentioned that its a bitch to tune with a palm pilot, he didn't say he didn't get power with it.

Anyways, myself, I plan to go with a haltech more than likely. First of all I noticed when I changed my engine that my factory wiring harness is all hard, brittle, and corroded like a mofo being 22 years old and going through those extreme heat cycles and being exposed to all those elements under the hood, so I definitely wouldn't mind replacing that. Also there is a lot more tunability with a standalone I've read, but don't really know all the details myself as I've already looked past the rtek and don't care to compare. If you look at our different engine management sections on this forum you'll notice that the haltech is by far the most frequently visited/posted in section. idk, that makes me wanna go haltech. then again many people seem to have a lot of great experiences with the rtek and it is a lot cheaper in comparison, well and it requires less modification to install. idk man, just my unexperienced $.02 cents. GL with your power goal, I'm looking for that eventually, but am pretty happy for now with around 220 whp.

I'm still looking into different EMS's and still learning so I'll definitely check out there section.

As for the turbos aformentioned, what type of injector combination would be sufficient? 4x720's? 720/1000?

solareon 02-03-10 06:07 PM

you are going to need a minimum of 720/1000 and a bnr stage 2.

Read my thread https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/bnr-stg-2-323-hp-884507/. I made 323hp/294tq with a bnr stage 2 and the rtek 2.1

It really is pushing the limits of that setup and I would recommend going with a haltech or megasquirt just for the safety of running more than the 1 bar of boost and eliminating the AFM. If you already have a built and ported motor with the racing beat rev t2 then you should be about to stay under your budget for the ecu/turbo/fuel/cooling

dont get me wrong the rtek is a decent setup and i did get power from it but it can just be a huge pain to get it done.

it might actually be about the same as a standalone. if you get the haltek then you have to rewire everything where the rtek is just plug and play. but i would personally say to go thru the hard work in the beginning and just rewire rather than deal with a palm pilot for how ever long you keep that setup.

Not to start an argument of rtek/haltech but I did very little actual "dyno tuning" to get my setup to where it is. I did a few pulls on the street and just guessed at the map. Took it down to the dyno and smoothed out a rich spot at the transition and then bam 323hp

rx7 FC TII 02-04-10 06:26 PM

oh yeah its possible to get that done. ive just had a huge issue with palm pilots. they keep disconnecting while driving. trying to tune yourself is damn near impossible/very unsafe while driving.

when it comes down to it, its really a matter of personal opinion.

Being that I'm still illiterate on tuning, how does one do "street tuning" with the Rtek? Is it preloaded and you adjust from there? What are you looking for specifically while tuning, regardless of EMS (Haltech, Rtek, Microtech)? I see people loading maps, and am not too sure how to be reading them.
