Suddenly Horrible

So this morning has sparked a new problem. Bad idle. I haz it.

Anyways, so yeah, it likes to stall...quite a lot of engine shudder...idling too low...pulsing...and it'll stall. I bumped my idle up as high as it would go but it made no difference.

I recently reset my TPS and reset the idle...things have been perfect for a few weeks. Really perfect...and it wasn't bad before I reset everything except for an annoying TPS loop at 1,500rpm.

I've looked for vacuum leaks...I haven't seen any and there shouldn't be because I replaced all of the vacuum lines (Whole rats nest too!) a few months ago.

I do wonder if my alternator has something to do with it...it takes a lot to excite it. It used to be that just SLOWLY bringing the revs up past 3,000 a bit on startup would do it...now you have to give it a good little blip for it to kick on.

Thoughts? Anyone?

If your alternator is going bad it should take longer to start your car or it might turn over slower. But hell if you know it's bad then just have it rebuilt it should only cost around 50-100$.

See the car can run with a bad alternator but the battery has to be charged a good amount. If the battery gets too low the ignition system will not have enough power to fire the coil's and plug's. But if the battery was that low it would be pretty hard to start.

Good Luck

before you replace the alt, check what kind of voltage it's making. no sense replacing something that's not broken

I dunno why I even suspected the alternator, because if that were the case the charge light would be illuminated and/or the problem would get worse under electrical load.

I've tried bumping up my idle to help with this problem but the effect is very very mild.

The exhaust smelled pretty rich yesterday...like...really rich. Other than this new idle problem the car runs perfectly as normal.

The night before this happened I had gotten abusive though...it was either put my foot in balls to the wall on a cold motor or get nailed by the son of the bitch that damn near hit me. It didn't seem to have any adverse effects though for the rest of the night. It was just the next morning that this started happening. It does not seem down on power at all...compression pops from the exhaust on starting sound normal as ever and it doesn't take any longer to start.

I do premix normally (OMP still installed and working fine, just a safeguard) however in the past two tanks of gas I haven't had any 2-stroke to pour in.

So the only thing that has changed is not having premixed my gas in two tanks.

As I said, other than it not idling the car is perfectly fine and normal.

I've been going around my engine bay and making sure all of my vacuum lines are firmly on and they are...All wiring harnesses are intact and seem to fit snugly...I'm just plain stumped.

Check your spark plugs, and clean them off for the hell of it.

I was considering that...but I would *think* if it were the problem, it'd have trouble starting and running. However, it's free...I'll give it a shot anyways. I know that premixing can cake on the goods with spark plugs so...yeah.

Well exhaust smelling rich would be unburnt fuel.. which bad spark would lead to fuel not burning good.

I had shit plugs on my 7 long ago, would flood, flood, idle bad, would drive alrite if I kept the rpms up so thats just my assumption

Hope ya get her fix :)

I removed my spark plugs and soaked them in brake cleaner. They weren't that bad...

However, I was doing some vacuum line checks and came across one that I missed. Oops. Problem solved.

Hey, at least now I have clean spark plugs again!
