subtle Vibration coming from rear of car?
I have a strange, very subtle, noise or vibration coming from the back of my 88 TII. It only seems to be happening when I accelorate between 0 and 20 mph. It comes on at about 1100rpms and when car gets going it seems to stop??? Anyone?....Anyone?.........Anyone?...............( "Ferris Bueler " reference)

i have a similar small vibration but its RPM dependant instead of speed dependant. like i can be in 3rd gear and if i hit like 1900rpms you can hear and feel a vibration, baffles me. we installed my entire turboII drivetrain so i'm sure we messed something up back there :)

For shits and giggles, try swapping the rear and front wheels. If may be an out of balance wheel.
Another thing to check would be the driveshaft U-joints. My '83 had a vibration that just got nastier over time that turned out to be that. |
this happend to my buddies 88... it ended up being the new drive shaft they put on came loose... they loaded up the locktight, re-bolted and everything was cured

i had the same vibration problems, as time went on it got worse and worse.. turns out it was infact my U-joints like Jose-pi said. And since the stock driveshaft doesnt come with replaceable ujoints i now have a new driveshaft in the mail. good luck, hope your situation gets fixed.

Agree with "U" joint comments. Its prolly the front U joint deciding it is too loose. Had the same exact problem untill the rear one also came loose and it vibrated at all speeds and gears. And yes you will need the entire drive shaft unless you are willing to put in the replacement joint you can find posted here. Do a search.

And the only reason that a U joint will fail in our cars?? (under most circumstances..)
....Bad Engine/Diff mounts... :D So check those if its your U joints. You can definatly replace the U joints, you dont need a whole new one, just take it to a driveline specialist, they'll fix it up. :) You can even get some bigger/beefier U joints put in it like I did. |
so if the drive shaft don't fit try looking at the trans mount
|
White_FC that is a good point about why they fail, that would suck if you replaced them and they failed again :D! Anyway it does sound like U-joints, but good luck and I hope whatever it is isn't too expensive :D!
