Stupid Noob questions

I heard of people premixing their oil. Is this like gas for a 2 cycle? If I should then what is the ratio?

I was told that the throwout bearing was bad on the car I am sopposed to be getting. The clutch kits I found only have pilot bearigs in them. Is that the same thing?

Im sure ill think of some more questions later. Thanks

A pilot bearing is NOT the same as a throw out bearing.

Premix is not a necessity. Do a search on here for premix and you will find enough info to keep you busy for days.

there are kits that come with both pilot and throwout bearing.

premix is usually 1oz:1gallon, tc-w3 2-stroke oil.

well im not exactly an expert so i dont know bout the whole premix thing. the pilot bearing is the one in the middle of the fly wheel and supports the input shaft of the transmission, the throw out bearing is the one on the clutch fork. it makes a rotating "interface" for the clutch fork and the fingers on the pressure plate diaphram spring. and it would probably be a good idea to change both anyway.

pm me, i might be able to help you.

Thats what it does, but thats not where its located. It goes inside the hole in the back of the crank shaft.

Anouther question. Without taking the clutch out how do I know what size it is. I found the clutch kits ($$$) and it gave me a choice in the size and did not say a throw out bearing was included.

What is the point in premixing?

Bowdowntome 03-28-04 10:56 PM

Is a throw out the same as a relese bearing?

AcidShock 03-28-04 10:58 PM

Yes, it is. Several terms, I believe. Release bearing, throwout bearing, I think I even heard clutch bearing once or twice.

WAYNE88N/A 03-28-04 10:59 PM

yep

As for the size of the clutch, if the car is naturally aspirated (not turbo model) then you should pick the clutch that has 225 MM as the size. IIRC the turbo model clutch size is 230 MM, it is larger than the N/A one, heh.
