Strut mounts.
I was told by Mazda Competition that there are no strut mounts for the rear in my 1986 GXL RX-7. He could only find part numbers for the front strut mounts [FBY1-34-380]. Are there mounts for the rear? I took a look and there appears to be, and gee, that would make sense...
Does anyone know the Mazda part number for the rear strut mounts? Also, are there better strut mounts than these rubber ones? Some kind of Urethane or Derlin version perhaps? |
Technically the rears do have a strut mount, but it's a "solid" plate.  There are rubber "bushings" on the rear shocks that actually take the deflection...

If you're using the stock springs or something like an Eibach there's only the stock type mounts. If you want to run coil-overs Mazda Comp has a solid top mount for 2.5" springs. Pretty sure it's made by Ground Control.

I don't know if anyone makes a replacement (metal) mount for it.  Cusco might offer one, but I can't confirm that.  The Japan racers know this part cracks under extreme racing conditions; we, at K2RD, are developing a beefer (3/16" thick steel) replacement for the rear strut top as of this moment.
I don't know of anyone that offers stiffer bushings for the tops either. -Ted |

Originally posted by Rob500 I don't think that is what he is looking for. Those look like Ground Control upper spring perches. I think he wants the piece that bolts to the body of the car. I haven't seen anyone that makes a replacement for the rear upper strut mount. If Rted is making one, that would be helpful. The stock ones only have two small bolts and seem pretty weak. Rob |
