Stripping Spray-On Vinyl Color off of my FC Interior

Does anyone know the best way to remove that Plastikote spray on vinyl dye (actually like rubberized paint)? The interior of my FC is colored black with the stuff (and it looks and holds up GREAT), but I'm changing to tan and would like to remove the old color first to make sure the new stuff sticks well. Advise?

Do you mean the tar? If you gouged it with a screwdriver would you see black?

I bought a car with that stuff on several of the parts...... idiots that had the car before tried color coordinating the interior......

I think denatured alcohol cause it to get gummy and them you could rub it off with a rag... but it took a LONG friggin time to get it all off.

You may be best off sanding and re-painting in an OEM like color...I'm not sure what you could use to take the paint off that won't discolor the OEM finish.

well sounds like he wants to take it off, and then repaint. problem is, what takes off paint that doesn't melt plastic?

Exactly the problem. Maybe I should just repaint over it?

I'd scuff it up real good with a large grit sandpaper then just paint over it.

I have been it the carpeting business for a few years, but what I am getting at is even stickiest shit isn't a problem if you use acetone. and in the carpet business, you can get in some sticky shit

acetone disolves the plastic, so that defeats its use in this thread.

If it looks good, trade it with someone that ones black interior and have them give you your old parts, people are always looking for black interior.
