street ported rebuild-won't start!please help!
 

i have an 89 body with a rebuilt 86 engine with a street port. the egr is off as well as the vacuum spider.ghetto-rigged, i know, but everything is connected and correct. we tried to start it and it wouldnt start. we saw that the engine was getting flooded so we tried a few days later. the second time we put some oil into the housings and it helped a lil bit but still didnt start. next, we push started it. it started, but our problem now is that the engine is still being flooded. what can i do to fix it? after doing research, i came to the conclusion to adjust the tps. what do you think? any/all help will be deeply appreciated!

Well, from my experience (limited), the car will want to flood on every start-up, seeing that the compression is so low... At least you know it WILL start. I've had to compression start (push) my car EVERY time since I've gotten the car running 3 weeks ago. Tonight was the 1st time it started up on it's own (except for one freak time a couple weeks ago). I have around 150 miles on the rebuild. Don't be discouraged, check whatever you think could be adding to the problem, but expect to have to push start it alot. How many miles were on the housings that you used?

well what Rotaryressurection recommends is that you have a battery charger that can help boost the starter as some used batterys sometimes have enough power to start a car with compression,. but since your lower on compression it will take a little more juice. and definatly try the oil. just gotta keep cranking her

if it is a S4 motor with S5 injectors and S5 ECU then it should still have an ECU built in fuel cut, flooring the accelerator while cranking should help to clear it out when it floods.
