Street Port information.
 

Got a question about a street port. I am getting a new engine soon. I want it street ported when I buy it. I spoke with a guy at an engine building place and he said that doing a large streetport on a S5 NA would make it hard to drive around town and sacrifice street drivability a bit. He said what they could do is build my engine with a mild street port and build it really strong to withstand high RPM instead. Which would be better to get. The large street port with just normally built, or the mild street port with a really stron build to handle high rpm. Or should I get the large port and get the engine built really strong as well? I have never heard of a street port ruining street drivability, what do you all think?? Thanks

Normally a street port sacrifices no drivability whatsoever. They have a stock-like Idle and drivability, just a little more flow. Also with just a mild streetport on a S5, the hardened gears to withstand high RPMs wont be necessary, as you wont be making any usable power over maybe 8500RPM (if that) which the stock internals are just fine for. Who is building this engine, are they a well known place??

They are a well known place that has been recomended by some people and are really close by to me. I have called them and a different place, the other place said a street port with new TII rotor housings would be fine and they would even upgrade the apex seals. This place told me that it is better to do a mild port and such like I explained. He said that a few other rotary specialists told him this info as well. They have not told me a price yet but said they would get back to me. He also said that doing the mild port would be best if I then did a true cold air intake with heat barrier and shit, and did a nice high flowing exhaust, both of which I was going to do anyways. I would prefer to have a bigger street port done though so I'm not sure where to get it from, price will decide it I guess.

Anyone else got any thought on this? Which I should go for as a daily driver? I still don't know price of place telling me to do a mild port, but the other place is really good deal.

Huge street port all the way. :D I did it and no regrets. Been driving the car daily for the last 6 mo's.

Sounds good to me then. Screw the place that told me the mild one is best....unless they are way cheaper and willing to do the big one I am not getting from there. Thanks. That's what I needed to hear.
