Strange sounds and vibrations...?
 

Well, here's the story. I rarely drive my car to begin with, I put about 100 miles on it a month or so. On the 12th, I took it out to the track to get some base times with it. The first run I thought I broke something, I heard a loud clunk. The right rear suspension makes alot of noise normally, so after looking around for about 15 minutes, I left it as suspension noise. It ran alright, or seemingly alright, for a few more days. Then I really started to notice that the car's making alot of noise and vibrations from under the hood at idle and low RPM. It idles, drives and boosts fine... just feels like it's vibrating itself to death. I'm thinking it's a motor mount, but I don't have a way to jack it up right now and check. I've never broke a mount, so I'm not familiar with how the car acts when that happens. How much should the shifter move after changing gears and accelerating? Mine moves about 1.5" if I get on the gas pretty good, but not WOT. I haven't driven it near WOT since it's been acting up. Please help, if it's motor mounts, how hard are they to do, etc?

Put your hand on top of the upper manifold. Wiggle the engine. How much does it move laterally? This will tell you if you need new motor mounts. To change them, I would suggest jacking the engine up and just unbolting them. Pretty esay. I would personally use an engine hoist to do it, but not everyone has one like myself;)

it's prob. a diff mount d a search they go out more often than the motor mounts and could cause the symptoms you are talking about

You're diff mount broke. I had it happen twice to me, I had to have it welded solid to make it stop breakin.

What'd you have to do to get yours welded? Can they take the broken one and weld it, or do I need a new unit? How did it feel after you had that done? Could you even tell, did it vibrate slightly, etc?

What we did was take the whole mount off and fabricate the whole mount from one peice of steel, welded it soild to the subframe and side of the diff.


It has increase the vibration, just a little over a good stock mount, not bad at all, it is well worth it knowing you can do a 7000 clutch dump and not break anything, back there.

It even helps the car hook better on hard take offs.

It really got rid of alot of wheel hop. not all, but some.

You have to pull some of the suspension parts loose and let htme hang to get to the entire mount.

also the shifting is much better., a little tigher, but more precise and I no longer miss shifts at really high rpm.

Any chance you would fabricate a set of those solid steel mounts? They are such a pain in the ass. I am lucky I never broke one, but when I get a TII, I will probally do so in the first week;)

I never thought about making any mounts.

When I made mine, I wasn't worried about the look, or how clean the welds looked. Most people would bitch and complain about that shit, when it doesn't really matter as far as how well it works.

I don't think legally I can charge for them, I would have to trade stuff for them.

But if anyone wants them, I guess I could get a total number of people who would want them and I could then come up with a price/ trade value.

Maybe someone want to start a new thread and see if people really wants these made.

Its really only good for drifting or drag racing.

It really makes the power hit instantly and eliminates wasted energy lifting the rear end, till the rubber stops the movements.

I need one ASAP, so I'll probably just have mine welded as well.
