Strange noise after shutoff

My car is a stock 1988 N/A, and when I came to a stop to check in to work today, after getting out of the car it was making a very low whine/moan sound coming from under the hood. It stopped after about 10 seconds, before I could get the hood open and see where it was coming from.
I then pulled it around to the parking garage, and it whine/moaned for 5 more seconds this time before stopping.
There was no fluid or smoke leaking in either of the places I parked, just that odd sound.
The temp gauge reads normally as well. (1/4th of the way up, halfway into 'C')
I plan to check later when I get off tonight to see if it does this when cold.
Normally, and up until today the car just does the normal soft clicking a hot car makes after shutdown.

It's been hot lately in northern california, so I wonder if it could be related to the heat in some way.

Any ideas or experiences to share to let me know whether to be worried or not?

Epilogue:

On my way home from work the night after making that previous post, temperatures were spiking all the way straight to H on the temp gauge after 5 minutes of driving.
The car was pulled over at a gas station and the coolant was checked. Very oddly, the coolant was empty. After letting the car cool, I drove to the supermarket and bought some distilled water, and emergency filled up the car since it was 12:30am and no car parts places were open.

Then I restarted the car to bleed the water I had just filled the car with, and there was violent bubbling from the coolant fill neck while the engine was running.
After filling the car completely, the bubbling continued, then stopped.
I looked at it in puzzlement for a few seconds, when all of a sudden this giant clog of rust brown shit shot into the air out of the radiator.

The coolant sunk all the way inside, and I refilled the car with water and there were no more bubbles, and the coolant and engine temps had mysteriously returned to normal.

The rest of the 10 minute drive home, temps were normal and it was like nothing happened.

So, long story short, I just purchased a new koyo radiator for 86-88 N/A.
Does anyone have any experience putting these in so I know what to expect during installation?
