Strange Coolant buzzer and speedometer problem
 
If the title was confusing, imagine how I feel. Welcome to my world.

When I first bought this 86 Rx-7, I had a very loud buzzer with the low coolant warning up. I checked the coolant level, tried my best to bleed and refill the system as I could. Bleeder valve and all (really did search forum, still buzzing). Now comes the Strange part...

When I pulled my gauges out to castrate the buzzer out, the only wire that disconnected was the speedometer connection. After destroying the buzzer, I tried to put the line back into the speedometer but it kept falling out. After shoving it back in the best that I could (it would probably still fall out if you pulled at it from inside the engine bay) I screwed everything back together and turned on the vehicle. To my surprise, the buzzer had stopped...

Strange coincidence? It gets weirder...

I later had a full hose replacement, radiator cap and flush to make sure that everything was good. Driven it for a week without any problems. Anyways, my oil pressure gauge wasn't working so I went and bought a used gauge from a junk yard. I tried my best AGAIN to put the speedometer wire in but decided that as long as it was attached it was good enough. Earlier, it fell out as I was driving and decided to do it the right way. I actually plugged the speedometer back in securely this time (I twisted the white snap-on connector until it clicked and it was secure)...

The buzzer returned. Maybe it is pure coincidence but how can that be? It wasn't buzzing before, no indication that the coolant is even low.

Could there be a short somewhere with this line? It's not even a line, it's just a large wire that goes to my tranny! I don't get it. Any inputs? Maybe it's purely coincidence so tomorrow I'm gonna remove the speedometer wire and see if it stops. Hypothetically, if it does, what and where could this weird phenomenon be occuring?

whether your buzzer is going off or not, is your idiot light going off for coolant? i have sometimes seen my light come on but get no buzzer, also the buzzer is not only for coolant, there are 4 functions i know off, coolant, oil level, redline, and security alarm; although it also alrarms the horn so you dont usually hear the buzzer also.

What did you destroy on the back of your instrument cluster that you THINK was the buzzer?

and what was the buzzing? if you read through the FSM there is a section that will help you decode the buzzer, i.e. buzz, stop, buzz, stop, buzz, stop or buzz buzz buzz stop...it will explain what each sequence of beeps mean...

Does this car have power steering? becase wth no speedo input the P/S computer would beep....

First fix the car.

I don't know how many times it needs to be posted that the overflow tank has nothing to do with the coolant system being full. It is simply the overflow tank to help prevent dumping onto the ground extra coolant when warm, and suck it back in when cold.

2nd, the speedo is driven on a cable and not a wire, so if you are dealing with wires, then you are working on the wrong thing.

3rd only an absolute idiot would remove the buzzer in the first place, instead of just fixing the car. The sensors are easily tested, and troubles are easily found. Butchering the buzzer off because you are having a problem is like cutting your hand off because you have a hang nail.

Well the buzzer is there simply for the reason it tells you if there is a major issue with the car. Telling you unless you fix your car, you will blow up the motor.

Pisses me off to hear people wanting to remove the buzzer because they are too lame to fix the car. They'd rather rip something else off instead of doing it right.

Of course these people that remove it, are the same ones that post 6 months later how they blew their motor.
