straight pipes?

I wanted to get some thoughts from the Gurus on this one...

I'm currently running a RB header, into a presilencer, then into a y-pipe, into RB mufflers... so I have two pipes, going into 1, then splitting back into two...

I read on an RX-7 website that my setup is good for high-end horsepower, but that if you run two pipes the entire way back, it will increase low-end torque. I can easily replace my system with a road race header, and have my exhaust guy run a pipe to each muffler. Would this, in fact, increase torque?

Also, what size pipe should I use, if I go with the straight pipes? I was thinking about getting an exhaust cut-out for each pipe for when I race, and having a pipe exit on each side of the car in front of the wheels. Good idea? I know it would definately look cool, but that's really not the point.

Please note that I do not care at all about looks, sound, or emissions. Money is always important, but I know I can afford to do the straight pipes. So basically, the only thing I am worried about is performance.

What do y'all think?

i thought that if you ran two straight pipes you would lose backpressure and therefore torque.....Im pretty sure that a true dual is great for high end but a split dual is better for torque.....i may be wrong though

it woudl decrease tq b/c of lack of back pressure.. but high end HP would be improved but some great numbers. Dave

ah ok, I read it backwards then

about how much power could I expect from switching to true duals with the cut-outs? 10% over my current system? 5%?

probably somewhere around 15-20 hp for the split....but i bet everything below 3500 rpm feels like your 6 ports are wired open......but itll launch nicely.....
