Storing the Wankel?
 

Ok guys I am going off to college next week and I need to store my car. What is the best way to go about doing this? I really have no idea since this is my first time. So any and all help would be great.

Need more info. outside or inside storage? how long are you going to store it?

Inside storage, complete security and will be stored from the end of august to the end of april

OK, drive the car 30 minutes. Drain and refill the oil.
Put car on jackstands. tanke off tires and store seperately. Buy some BOEING T-9 protectant. spray all exposed metal suspension surfaces. Make sure coolant is clean and freas. Top off all fluids. Vaccum car good. Wax Paint. I recommend blackfire. Place moth balls around fllor of garage under car. Place mousetraps and rodent bait also. Cover with a quality cover, remove battery and place on trickle charger/maintainer. Make sure gas tank is full and use the recommended amount of STABIL gas stabilizer. If you can afford it buy a car coccoon to store it in. John

i use atf to clean out the housings so any carbon in there doesnt crustify on me. this can happen if the car sits to long. that is a personal choice though some people dont use this method. the other suggestions are good though.

Adding to my post. I would pull the plugs and fog the motor with PB Blaster or Seafoam

Well yeah I do agree but with the moth balls and stuff? I was planning on covering my exaust tip and all and covering the car good. Beyond that I was planning to do all the rest with the fluids and such

I was planning to store my car indoors as well for the winter months (nov to april) I was wondering if the car should be started at all during this time?

If you are going to use a car cover, put some moistere traps inside the car. This doesn't aloud mildew to form in the dash and steering wheel.

does the stuff evaporate esaily? or will it just sit in there? would you have trouble firing the engine again in the spring?

I know that marine engines are fogged to death until they will not start. You might want to go to a marine shop and see what they have in a can. I remember it was very hard to start out boat motor in the spring, but it was well worth it!

I am also storing my car this winter, it'll be in a garage w/a car cover and I'll be stablizing all the fluids etc....

But what should I do about keeping the engine carbon free? Just poor ATF in there and let it sit all winter or what?

NEVER, EVER let ATF sit in your engine for more than a few minutes. Actually, just don't put ATF into your engine at all. Use fogging oil for storage.

hey, aaron, some time ago. I remember reading that someone told that it was actually good for the engine, that were going to be store. Why you don't recomemd it?

When you order a Jspec, it comes with a black fluid in the engine to stop the seals from sticking. Why not buy some of this and put it in there for storage?

Now when you say fogged you just mean dumping the whole shit load of the stuff in there correct//??

Fogging is spraying an aeroosl protectant peoduct into the combustion area and the machined surfaces of the block to provide a protective coating of the machined/mating surfaces. John

The moth balls are necessary, it will keep 90% of rodents away, we stored our boat at one of those indoor storage places once without moth balls and there was 10 lbs of rat shit in it. Now every time we store it we put moth balls around it and no more doo-doo, or worse yet wires that rats might chew through.

The other thing I forgot. Take triple layers of aluminum foil and wrep it over your intake and exhaust openings, Damn its been a long time since I laid a car up!

Does anything else need to be done to protect the engine? (other than fogging it, and fresh oil/coolant)

Would a richer mix of coolant be better for storage? (less water, less corrosion, less chance of freezing)

And if the motor is fogged properly, it doesn't need to be started at all during the time in storage?

As well, how would you reccomend I fog the engine??
