Anyone got some pics of winter FC projects in the garage?

i'd trade my FC for an FD, course i get laughed at but then again i like smoking the FD guys. :)

Just curious, what is it you miss most about your FC?

probably the fact that it doesn't sound like a beercan inside, you can lounge around without hitting your elbows on stuff or hearing the plastics creaking like they are all about to shatter... ;)

I miss my non turbo FC. I work on FD's a lot now and I hang out with more FD guys. But I love the simplicity and reliability of a non turbo FC.

lol, sounds like you are not a fan of the 3rd gen interior. The reason I asked, is becuase it seems curious that he should miss an FC coming from an FD, naturally you would think everything was better in the FD. The FC seems like an unloved middle child, not loved for the charm of the raw, simple FB and not loved like the super car exotic-like FD. So I was wondering, what is it that actually makes it special to someone like the original poster...maybe getting off topic. :)

Don't get me wrong I'd love to own a 3rd gen, but the 2nd gen TII was in my price range, well actually pretty damn cheap.

I like the late 80's to early 90's sports cars, growing up you saw these nice new cars (supra, rx-7, 944, 240sx, starion, ect) well, for me they were. Rear wheel drive, and, these days, affordable and easier to work on, not soo much electronics, and they had that 'look'. Long nose, hatch back, two door, RWD.

You'd always see the heavy old 60's-70's muscle cars, I like them too, but the camero and the mustang and the corvette (which mostly sucked in the 80's) were all too common and I considered them overrated. If you want to burn some rubber they were the cars for that, but as far as on road performance and handling goes.. meh.

I rarely ever see TII's RX-7s and not that many 2nd gens around. FD's are only about as rare as a TII... Most 1st gens are piles of rust with engines that barely run and are too old for my taste, although with the ones being restored and upgraded are growing on me...

Winter Project: Just finished up rewiring my fuel pump and cleaning up wiring for my gauges and boost controller. Maybe someone else is putting in a Big Ass Turbo or something more exciting this winter?

I think about selling it sometimes, but I just don't know if I can bring myself to do it... ever.

Price was a motivator for me too, but so was the simplicity. I wanted turbo, but didn't feel ready to take on the FD's sophisticated system. Not sure I can sell mine either, it's a heap right now and has been sitting for years, but damn if I can't shake the urge to restore it and bring it back to life.

So far my winter project is amassing parts and trying to clean up some engine bay rust from a leaky ABS pump. I want to get the chassis ready before I rebuild the engine.

i second what arghx wrote. Its gorgeous because its simple. I had a GXL N/A and i loved her, she loved me. if i sneeze, my FD/gocart gives me the middle finger. But, thats turbos, heat, complexity etc. I loved my brothers TII. it felt like a bat outta hell. my FD is too expensive to treat like my mistress.

I guess, now that im going single, got my gt35r on its way yay, my engine will return to a simpler time.

But i wish i kept my 2nd gen. Honestly, i was dying to have the FD when i had the second gen for the sexiness and boasting rights. but that soon wears off and it comes back to the relationship between me and the car. I mean, im already shadowed by the 20b guys who have 50k extra to burn. So its a slippery slope.

While the second and third gen are similiar, they are two different sexy sports cars in my opinion.

i do love the look and drivetrain feel of the FD BUT i hate driving them for all the reasons i stated above. close the door and you sound like you're in an aluminum beer can driving down the road. add in all the interior rattles and suspension pops and rattles and they really are not an appealing comfortable drive like the much smoother feeling FCs. granted the stock FC is nowhere near on par with the handling of a stock FD but they are very similar when you do up an FC suspension wise, stock looks of an FC also do not even come close either but they can look pretty sweet with wheels and S5 trim package and lowered about 1.5" all the way around.

I had so much fun in my 88 GTU at Deal's Gap a few years ago. But i'm kind of afraid to take my T2. I'm worried I'll drive it off a cliff because the power is a lot harder to control. FD on stock turbos isn't bad up there though.

lmao at FC NA Reliability mine has been nothing but problem after problem. My 1st gen with twice the miles was a much better car.

hey, in all fairness, when you are dealing with any 20+ year old car, it's a crap shoot for reliability.

My old NA FC was far more reliable than my Audi A4 and far easier to work on. I drove it year round for years and started in -35 Celcius no problem. More reliable than my previous Celica and Corrolla. Personally, I never saw the FC as the unloved middle-child; it did sell 3 times as many compared to the FD. I like the FD, but I prefer the FC. I'm one of the few that could have bought an FD but bought FC's instead. Sure it takes a bit more work to make it look good, but that's part of the fun. Older cars have a big impact with body and suspension mods since old cars came with small wheels and huge fender gap. For me it's part of the satisfaction.

As far as projects, nothing crazy as I don't have the time. Probably some interior mods, but we'll see. :)

I used to beat the crap out of my '91 at the track all weekend long, shift buzzer screaming in my ear. Then I'd throw all my trackday tools and crap into the hatch, drive it home, change the fluids and DD it until the next event. The thing ran like a top.

Now I seriously spend more time under my car than in it. When it's running well, I absolutely LOVE my 3rd gen but I also fawking hate it when some random part disintegrates for no apparent reason. lol see sig.

I miss my FC, too.

I sold my FD and bought an FC instead. So much more fun to have a car you can flog and not think twice about.

Im currently working on a project with the FC, but constantly dream about getting a FD as soon as im done with it.. But.. from what you guys are saying im wondering if it is a phase? Will I perfer the FC once I own a FD? lol

Yeah sucks to be you for not inspecting a car that old better before buying. Heck my sister's first car was a civic with a bad tranny so she had to replace the worthless POS. I love my NA FC daily driver. Load of fun and not much to worry about.

I think the FD is pretty sweet but I would never get one because it's expensive and sounds like a pain to keep it running. Maybe if I got a ton of money and paid someone to do all the reliability upgrades and repair it. Or less money to buy just a shell and put an NA FC engine in it... under a locked hood to hide it from the world.

I've had my 87 TII for two or three years and I have no FD envy at all. I think they're nice, but I love my FC.
