stock sway bars question
 

are stock swaybars same turbo and nonturbo ? or turbo's are better ?

i`m going to put my RB ones onto my car and want to know if there will be any improvement if i`ll put mine stock ones onto friend's NA

In theory the turbo models were supposed to have larger sway bars but some were the same, some were different. The only way to tell is to measure the diameter of them with some calipers.

BTW: going bigger is NOT always an improvement. On my race car I have the largest stock sway bar I could find for the front (just happen to come from a '87 T2) and on the rear I run NO sway bar or a pencil sized one I found on a '87 GXL (depending on the track).

I found that the RB sway bars (front and rear) gave a decrease in overall grip but that is all dependant on other variables like spring rate, ride height, shocks, driver, dogs barking, etc. If I had experimented a bit the RB bar up front and my super small one on the rear might of been the best setup but it is sort of hard to just sell the rear bar so I sold both of them and settled for the Turbo bar for the front.

partstrader, did the big bar in the front and the baby bar in the back make any understeer for you?

The T2 doesn't use any different sway bars than the NA cars with heavy duty suspension.

The difference is heavy duty suspension VS standard duty.

For example, the 86-87 sport had the heavyduty suspension and sway bar.

As did the 87-88 and 89-91 T2 (although different designs for the series). So technically you could say that the T2 used the GS/Sport suspension since the GS/Sport came out first.

All the 'Verts, all the T2 models, all the GTUs version, and the 86-87 sport, and 88 GTU used the heavy duty suspension and larger sway bars.

difference is in diameter of bars ? if his are smaller they are worse ?

so every model had the heavy duty suspension except for the 89-91 GTU? one more thing i should upgrade :P

oh and what else was different with the heavy duty suspension besides the sway bars?

No not every model.

The 86-90 GXL, the 86-87 base and Luxury/GX, the 88 SE, the 89-90 GTU, and the 91 coupe without 4 piston brakes all had the smaller sway bars and standard duty suspension.

The difference bettween the heavy duty and standard suspensions was the swaybar size, Shocks, and on the series 4 versions also the springs and brakes (except for the GXL which used the heavy duty brakes but standard suspension).

mmm so they have wimpier shocks too, yuck. oh well aftermarket shocks should take care of that :)

ok, i`ll measure his sway bars, mine stock ones and post it here....on stock shocks is there way to say which one his heavy duty and which not ?

I still do not have true understeer. I usually get some understeer on initial turn in at low/mid speeds, which is probably more because of caster/camber/toe settings than the sway bar.
What the large-front / tiny-rear bar setup did change was the amount of oversteer under accleration after the apex of a turn. I am now able to get back on the throttle earlier with out hanging the rear end out. I am still able to get the car to oversteer but it is much more controllable.

My car is not a typical RX-7, my car has GC coilovers, adjustable shocks and I run with 15" x 10" wheels and full slicks so these changes/results will probalby NOT be the same for the average RX.
