Stock S5 turbo size?
 
I wanna know what size Is the stock s5 t2 turbo?? I've looked and everything comes up fd this fd that blah blah.

I wanna know sizes so I can see what turbo I wanna run, I want a turbo thats bigger than stock but I dont want some monster ass turbo.

Alright so It looks like I'm gonna be picking up a bnr stage 2! Maybee stage 3!!:egrin:

I also remembering looing back at one of my s5 turbos that the wastegate is blocked off by some plate? In my exp with piston engines and the turbos wastegate, You don't want the wastegate running with the exhaust at higher boost levels. But on the rotary turbos It blocks It off and makes in run through to the exhaust. Any Input on that?

I'm not sure I know what you're describing, but if you're talking about the internal wastegate, they're used on a lot of turbochargers (lots of OEM applications as well as aftermarket). It's been seen that with high exhaust gas flow, the door of the stock wastegate can be forced open. Replacing the actuator with one that has a stronger spring can help eliminate this. Brian at BNR has started doing this to his hybrids.

here is one i finished the build on just yesterday
stealth stock look s4 and nearly 300 rwhp capable around 1 bar
with all the tricks to adjust backpressure ratio and control spike and creep

stage 1 T trim front with back-cut rear
HD steel 270 bearing and garrett kit
double spider washers
36 mm wastegate button , cross drilled scrolls
opened up backing plate
and modded adjustable wastegate arm with extra spring

stage 2, V trim s5 high-flow with modded rear plate and dump
is what i use on my own FC,,
all trying to keep a stockish rear and internal gate and a low profile with the look under the bonnet and under the law

generally the 52-56 mm ( T and V and H ) t04 b compressor wheels can be made to either fit into machined hitach HT18s stock fronts
or use in 60 AR compressor housings

and so are good choices for mild stock look upgrades without throwing all the spool and low down efficiency out the window
or for pushing stock s4 blocks past there strength limits


depending on what wastegate and if any backcut mods you can also make them manageble for longevity and also against spiking and creeping
unlike some wilder larger E wheel and 60-1 combos

BNR Stage 2 is what I always figured I would go since my seals have been shot for ever.

The BNR is 3", What is the stock turbo's inlet diameter (I am still using the stock duct)?

The stock turbo's inlet is 2 5/8", so you'll need to get creative or use a 3" custom TID. The stock TID is very restrictive with the bends it has, and flow into the turbo improves greatly once you straighten it out.

Most T04B compressor housings have a 2 3/4" inlet, rather than 3". It's usually the T04E housings and Chinese knock-offs that have the 3" inlet, but there are some legitimate ones too.

I was refering to what i guess is called the backing plate. The plate that covers the wastegate port, wouldn't we want that port dumping out and not flowing with the exhaust? Or atleast rerouting it so it meets up with the exhaust a little later rather than right out of the hole?like a screamer pipe? Maybe that would be insufficient for a stock turbo?

Nice! That springed wastgate is similar to something I use to do to my sr20 stock wastegates! I use to add 4 shims to the bolts that hold the actuator! =) 12 psi of tricky ness!

I have always been seriously impressed with BNR's hybrid turbos simply because they look so stock. I wouldn't hesitate to run one even in California.

A divorced wastegate. I've seen a couple turbine housings & back plates modified like that. It's probably helpful in preventing boost creep, and could have a positive effect on exhaust gas flow while the wastegate is open. A small plate would need to be welded into the housing to block the path towards the turbine wheel.
