stock radio question- Please help!!

I am restoring a 1989 GTUs. Currently there is a crappy aftermarket radio in the dash that I would like to replace with a stock radio (for show purposes). Does anyone know if the correct radio is the 90-91 style (2 plugs I think) or more like the 86-88 style (6 plugs)?

I wanted to get all the necessary stuff together before I tear down the dash. I have the ability to buy a factory stereo from a 90 RX-7 (cd/cassette and dash amp).

Will this plug right in?

Thanks much

Bob

Mines a '91

and it has two plugs, basically one has the connections for power and the other has the connections for the speakers. Before you go too far check to see if the installer cut off :( the plugs or just tapped into them, you may have to get them as well!

good luck!

floridarx7man,

I think you might still find them OEM new, but there will be a premium of course - possibly in the $500-$600 range.

I've never been a purist at heart (fuel injection upgrade instead of 4 barrel carb on the el-camino - you bet).

Kinda hard to identify with wanting to spend money on OEM prestine new when aftermarket is so much better.

I believe all 89-91s used the same type of connections for the stereo.

And I'm not a purist at heart either. The factory CD player started wigging out on me and wouldn't respond well to cleaning, so I decided to go aftermarket. The aftermarket Sonys are have red/orange lighting, so it fits in well actually. When I took the old one out, I could see repair stickers for when it had been taken out before and fixed, not once, but twice! I'll have to ask the P/O about it sometime. He's my step-dad's best friend, so he shouldn't be too hard to track down.
