Is the stock intercooler effective when front mounted??
 

I searched... I know.... coulnd't find exactly what I was looking for.

Anyways- I'm putting a turbo on an engine with high comp rotors, and need all the detonation resistance I can get.
I am obvioulsy using an intercooler, and will be keep boost to around 8-10 psi max.

SO- the question- Is the stock sized intercooler decent enough to REALLY work when front mounted?

I can get them for very cheap.... and I don't want a huge job of cutting the hell out of my front supports- etc. for a huge intercooler.
$$$ is a factor too!

One of them probally won't be effective. But if you weld two of them togther.

My IC is 3 stock cores welded together. Thing to keep in mind when you do it, someday you'll probably want something else. So make sure and use big tubing up to the front, if necessary use a reducer on the IC endtanks. Or you can weld some new endtanks on with bigger inlet/outlets. Just keep future upgradeability in mind when you do the job.

My 3 stock core IC seems to work very well though. When I did have it running, at 10psi the Wolf said that intake temps before and after the IC were only a couple degrees different. So it did a good job of cooling, not sure how much pressure loss there was though.

I honestly don't mind pressure loss- the more the better!

ONLY If I can't find something comparable in a junkyard or something...

Do you just connect the piping together, or actually remove the end tank of each one, and weld the tubes together? That would be a freakin pain.

don't use the biggest IC piping, keep it the same size and it should be good. Like BOOSTD7 said, keep upgradablilty in mind.

What turbo are you using? Stock?

me wants a greddy intercooler might get me in the 12's

Ya I have a stock s4 turbo, on a highly modded car....
I have seen a lot of IC's on Ebay from different cars- Probes, Talons, etc...
The volvo or saab 9000 ones are just too big-

I found a very thick one (4") but only 8.5x7 inches suface area.

Still looking... I don't want to pay 150 bucks for an intercooler!!
