You could get new connectors from mouser for ~$25 + shipping.
10 pin housing 172315-7 (Mouser P/N 571-172315-7)
18 pin housing 172316-7 (Mouser P/N 571-172316-7)
24 pin housing 172317-7 (Mouser P/N 571-172317-7)
contacts 170353-1 (Mouser P/N 170353-1)
All available as singles. You may want to double check pin counts and dimensions since I don't have an ecu on hand to reference at the moment.

Yeah, no reason to chop up a decent harness. If someone's got one that's trashed, it'd work out well. The problem with ordering the connectors new is the PITA of pinning it.

I've just finished up most of the S4 style stuff -- so I guess it's just a matter of getting a S5 ECU to look at.

Ideally, I'll need both a N37x and the n35x.

Looks like some of the stuff I sent got wet and is being returned -- let me know if you're expecting something from me and haven't yet got it, or I'll verify everythings OK/repackage/reship whatever they bring back.

From what I understand it's an emissions thing. For the catalytic converter to work it has to have a certain ratio of unburnt fuel, oxygen, etc. If you run leaner, you get more NOx and less HCs, and there's not enough chemistry to go around in order to get rid of the NOx. Sooo they dump in more fuel.

I have a S5 NA ECU and a junk harness just kicking around if you need it, SonicRaT.

I believe I have s5 harness plugs already -- don't have any S4, although not a huge deal at this point for S4.

Sort of...

The three reactions in a catalytic converter are best when the engine is running slightly rich. Burning of HC's is what heats the cat up so that it can do the other 2 reactions efficiently. Also, in a three way cat, the NOx stage is in the front and for NOx to be eliminated, you need as little oxygen in the gas stream as possible. Running slightly rich means you are burning off as much oxygen as possible in the combustion chamber and not much will be remaining in the incoming exhaust gas. The second part of the cat is where HC's and CO is burns (HC and CO decomposition can occur in both sections...get to that later) and these processes require LOTS of oxygen to happen, and that is why the split air pipe connects to the middle of the cat.

To get even more technical, HC's and CO can be burned off in the front and back of the cat if certain conditions are met. This is why we have port air injection and split air injection. During idle and extremely light throttle, there is very little load so no NOx is really being produced so the port air injection system injects air at the exhaust ports so that the entire cat can be utilized for burning off HC's and CO. Under load port air shuts off so that the cat can do NOx duty in the front and HC's and CO at the back using the split air system.

Head hurt yet?

So yes, Mazda is wasting gas so that the cat can work at peak efficiency even though gas mileage will suffer. If they did not, yeah the car would use a little less gas but they wouldn't be able to sell it in the US because it would run afoul of the US EPA.

Ever wonder why Euro spec cars get better gas mileage than US spec cars?

Just wondering if it would be possible to make the software compatible with an emulator such as the ostrich 2.0?

Also do you still need a s5 ecu I have one you can borrow for a while.

It would be possible to use an emulator, but the approach would be very different, as would the software for both. I don't have an emulator, so I wouldn't be able to design software to work with it.

Is there any form of OMP control built into the s5 boards? the electronic OMPs tend to take a crap after a while, being able to pull the car out of limp mode (or at least make enough space for the rtek chip to fit) might not be a bad idea.

I'm not sure if this question was answered once before. if it was, my apologies

OMP functionality is built into the software stored on the EEPROM. The basic RTEK is just an EEPROM with modified software and electrically identical to the factory chip.

If by donation you basically mean giving me the emulator to use to do it -- then yes. Without having the emulator myself I can't do it, and I'm not about to buy one as I don't have a need for it.

speaking of donation...

also.. how much more difficult is doing this to the rx8 ecu?( i've tuned the cobb as well)( i'm thinkin of putting my fc ecu in the rx8 when it gets a turbo.

For an Ostritch? Ok..... it'd definitely make development go a lot faster.... What software do you plan on using? I can probably write an ECU definition for it...

Its not a rush thing tbh as my fc is dead at the moment I bought it off a local guy who has had it for a few years in storage after he couldn't figure out what was wrong after fitting 2 used engines (no compression duh lol). He is looking through his storage for the spare for me atm so it won't be running for a tleast a month or two I'd say.

I usually user tunerpro as it is quite versatile for displayign graphs in a more familiar format but as I said I am not in any rush so don't worry about it.
