Stock CD player issues
 

I'm having some strange problems with my oem cd/tape player. This is the stock unit in a 91 vert, so i have the headrest speakers and all that jazz. here are the issues:

1. the cd player takes FOREVER to start playback and when it does it will only play the first half of the tracks, it can't play the second half.

2. during hard cornering the cd player sounds staticy. it fixes itself as soon as you exit the corner. wtf?

3. I have my ipod hooked up to a cassette adapter (I know, i don't expect anything great here). some tracks sound great, some sound like crap (usually tracks with lots of high hats or something, sounds like the high hat is clipping).

I don't really wanna replace the stereo, i would prolly end up spending too much on it, plus i like the nifty headrest speaker controls and having it all look stock is cool. has anyone else had any of these issues?

I'd say the CD player is dead, for sure. I had an old boom box that did the same thing, had to put it out to pasture. I think the same may be said for the tape deck. But over time the magnetic heads can get dirty, so perhaps try and clean those heads, and maybe you'll get a bit of change, MAYBE. Your speakers may not be up to spec either, especially if it's something like the high hat, over time, speakers just suck, they could be at the end, too. As for the staticy sound on the turns, I'd go out on a limd and say maybe a loose connection that's getting shaken a bit.

You might try pulling the radio and bringing it to a Panasonic certified shop for a good cleaning. Had that done once and it made big difference. Cost $45.00 as best as I recall. Eventually had to have the laser sled replaced. Think that was 175.00 and a major improvement, essentially eliminated the bump skipping/shut down problem. These are 18 plus years old and early technology. Years of interior dust/dirt/cig smoke fouls them up.

yeah i was gonna try pulling it out and cleaning it up a little tonight, maybe it will do something...

well i took it apart and cleaned it out and it still has the same issues, looks like i'm doomed...

STOCK SUCKS! :D

This is especially true of the stereo system.

Do yourself a favor and buy a good, quality aftermarket deck and speakers.
Your ears will thank you for it!

If you want a stock-looking stereo that has a decent CD and radio performance, go buy a NEW car! Stop pissing around with equipment that's eons out of date not to mention plain ol' worn out. Quality brandname CD tuners are very cheap these days, most likely chepaer than having the stock you repaired. Installation isn't that hard to do yourself or not that expensive to have done for you. A piss-poor installation job will look of place, a decent one won't.

The stock player is crap. Mine stopped working one night after shutting the car off. The damn CD skipped if you coughed anyway. This is what happens when you use a cd player from 1991.

Go buy a new system, oem equipment tech. sux. Anywho I replace everything stock in the systtem. Replcing them with component speakers in the front and regulars in the back along with a thomping box. Install it right and it will look ALMOST stock. peace

If you're worried about the looks of your stock stereo, then leave the stock one there.

I dunno if they still offer these, but there used to be CD "banks" (same with MP3 players?) that you hide the entire chassis and use a remote to control.
So your source becomes totally hidden, and if you like to stare at the stock stereo, you can.
