Stock boost gauge question
I have an 87 TII, it has some intake and exhaust mods done to it along with electrical fans, everthing but alternator removed, acv removed. I dont yet have a FCD, but will have one by the end of the week.
Here is my question, my stock boost gauge goes up and over the 400mm Hg mark. Is this safe? About how much boost in PSI does that equate to? As far as I know, the turbo is stock. Thanks for replies in advance, TRU |
The only answer for any question related to the stock boost guage is: Its a piece of crap, get a different one. Its so inaccurate trying to read it would be impossible.

I was wondering if the fact that I took off the ACV and T'ed the vaccuum line to the blow off valve and to the boost sensor throw off the gauge. Is that possible?

sometimes my stock gauge goes up halfway, sometimes all the way, sometimes just a little. but my greddy always shows 0.5 bar

I've never heard of a stock gauge actually reading OVER the normal amount.. I'd guess you're actually boosting higher than stock, but not quite hitting fuel cut yet.
Get an aftermarket boost gauge NO MATTER WHAT. And get a good one if you can float it. Now you say you had the A/C removed? If that's the case, then there's 2 holes in your firewall on the passenger side of the engine. Tee in the aftermarket vacuum/boost line to something, then run it through one of those holes in the firewall. If you don't have those holes, then you didn't completely remove your A/C system, or you purposely plugged them up (like I should, because it gets hot in my car with 'em there).. No cutting the firewall, it's great. |

Woah, thanks for the replies. I am gonna sell some stuff and buy a boost gauge. I made and installed an fcd today, MAN that shit made a big difference. My fuel still cuts sometimes at 7000rpm under heavy throttle. I am not complaining though. Way better than without the fcd.

Just a affirmation that the stock gauge will go over 400mmhg. I don't have a aftermarket gauge anymore since I lost confidence in the aftermarket one that I had. I make sure that I never get closer than a whisker from the last mark on the gauge. If I do, I WILL hit fuel cut shortly after it pegs out. Therefore I don't boost over 400mmhg. Foot control. Eye foot co-ordination(sp?). Luck?
