Stock Alarm/ Theft-Deterrent System Function.
Ok, so in the 6 months I've had my 7, the factory alarm has gone off 3 times. All three times have been random, and the same thing has triggered it each time. However, one of the times when I put my key in to turn the car to the START position the alarm didn't go away. Other than that, that has been what stops the alarm. What triggered the alarm in the first place has been just me unlocking the car as I always do. It's completely random..
So thus my question, because I couldn't find a straight answer really anywhere else, how exactly does the stock alarm work? What triggers it and what is supposed to disarm it. Also, how do you arm it? All help is appreciated. , Simon |
basically it arms when you lock the car, the alarm control sees all the doors locked, and waits 30 seconds and then turns the alarm on.
its supposed to disarm, when it sees a door unlock with the key. so there is a switch for the alarm for each door, the hood and the trunk/hatch. these switches are probably why the alarm goes off randomly. when the door opens, and the key is still locked, the alarm goes off, and it disables the starter thru the starter cut relay. the S4 cars have an alarm control box somewhere, it says alarm on it. the S5 is integrated with the CPU, so you have to get it to never arm, or fix it. |
Thanks a lot for the info! I'm assuming I set off the starter cut relay the one time when I had to pull the terminal off the battery to disarm it. So to inspect the alarms accuracy, I'll check all the alarm switches. The PO pulled out the Security Light (I have no idea why). Would that affect anything?

On the same topic, I have a S5 that arms itself after a minute or two, even if the car is completely unlocked. Any suggestions on what I should look at which might be causing this?

I had something similar on my Ford Probe and after many hours of troubleshooting I couldn't find the problem. I decided to unplug the alarm connector at the hood release.
