Still cutting out around left turns, i've tried everything

My fuel pump went out not too long ago, I got a used one for free, and when i first put it in, it would cut out around left turns really easy, so i got a new sock, and it seemed like it went away for 2 days, then it came bak, but not as bad. If the baffle in the tank, is the square thng the pump fits into, thats fully intact, I also see no rust in the tank, doesn't really look dirty at all. But around left turns it still cuts out, does anyone have anything else?

It should be like a sump of sorts I think, that the pump assy fits into/inside of. Are you sure it's not broke loose and maybe floating/moving around?

I'm sure you have it full of gas?

check all you wires, make sure they didnt get broke, stretched, or pulled when you were working on it. I did that with mine, the wires are 20 years old now and can get brittle. When I would go around corners of nasty bumps it would cut out because the force would pull on the wires and break continuity. Start it, and jiggle the wires around, thats how I found mine, not real scientific but it didhte job. Then just isolate what wire it is and put in a new lead.

Rock out-

I'll check in the tank, ill have to wait until the weekend though, my damn heater hose blew, didnt overheat and blow a seal though, thank god. I'll take pics of the tank.

The pump I got, the wires were spliced, i though maybe it was a problem, i'll check into that again. Maybe i'll just run new wiring from the relay, sounds like a good idea anyway.

Speaking of which, dont relays have something mechanical in them? Could it be that, because yesterday it did it on a right turn as well I think.

This was probably a fluke, but when mine once consistently cut out on hard left turns, it turned out that the electrical connector to the MAF was not on tightly.

this might be stretch but this is what happened to me....i had the same thing and tried everyting to solve it but couldnt get the problem to go away.....after i replaced my fuel pump witha brand new one it still cut out just as bad as it did before.....

i decided to take the fuel pump and assembly out and have a look around the fuel tank...i found a bunch of nasty shit in there....it kinda looked like a cross between soggy bread and a sponge....i had to scoop all of it out of my tank and now the problem is gone...

if that isnt happening to you then i would check the wiring on the fuel pump

Your positive your fuel pump is getting a good voltage?

TehMonkay 10-20-06 09:25 AM

im not sure, might as well redo it anyway
What gaugue, and should I just redo all the wiring to the relay, and from the relay to ground and the battery?

You check the fuel filter? Do FC's have external fuel filters? I know on my FB, I had this same problem and it turned out to be the fuel filter. Had a bunch of crap in it and on left turns all the crap would float over to the outlet side of the filter and plug it up. Turn back to the right and the crap would settle back into the bottom (side) of the filter.

On an FB, the filter is mounted sideways, Don't know about the FC's.

Later,
Bill

+1 for filters. Change both the external and internal fuel filters. It's cheap, easy and probably needs to be done anyways.

DREYKO 10-20-06 01:37 PM

im with rx fc t2 check your tank for sedimant. just pull the pump and use a plachlight before you drive it that day so whatever is in it can settle

TehMonkay 10-24-06 10:43 AM

Both filters are new, I dont doubt maybe my tank is filthy since the car sat a few years before i bought it. When I get low on gas i'll probably drain it, is there anyway to clean it without taking it off, the dirt probably clogged the new filter.

I was also advised to maybe check the harness under the drivers door door sill if that didnt work.
