Steering wheel puller necessary to remove steering wheel?

Well, I'm gonna be removing the stock steering wheel to install my new Momo Race steering wheel :D I was reading Haynes manual and it said that I need to use steering puller to remove the steering wheel, but I have heard some people say it is not necessary. So do I need the steering wheel puller or am I gonna be able to just yank it out? Thanks in advance :)

no........just be careful when u pull it off otherwise you will be prying your teeth off it. undo the big bolt i can't remember the size and put evenly. It should come off.

I like to leave the nut on a few threads so that when it finally breaks loose, it just stops when it hits the nut, and not my face.

so yeah, just loosen the nut, and yank on it like hell.

and be sure to mark a line so you know which way is straight up and down ;)

Bigretardhead is correct. Loosen the bolt until it's ALMOST off. Than pull from the 10 and 2 spots on the wheel, it will CLUNK than loosen the bolt and its off. I managed to smack my self in the head the first time i removed a steering wheel. FUCK it hurt

The times I've removed the wheels on a couple FC's I absolutely could not get them off without a puller. I'm a fairly strong guy, too.

i just wiggled my wheel off with very little problems. Havent really had a problem pulling it off, just remember where the ceter is.

you can't just pull it off, you gotta work it off, back and forth a few times. I've done it at least 10 times on a few different cars. I THINK its 21mm for the nut.

wiggling won't cut it, you got to shake it violently, at least that's what i do, even with the nut off, and i've yet to bash my head in with the wheel.

only ever removed a wheel once and this was in my FC about a month ago.. removed the bolts gave it a good shake and pulled it off.. there's something it goes into in the back can't remember i think something to do with the horn so i could only put it back in straight..

may be talking outta my ass here just can't remember was was behind it

Do not forget to make alignment marks on the spline and steering wheel before you pull it off. Otherwise you wll end up putting it on and off several times until you get it on straight again.
