Steering and Brakes swap

So I'm swapping the FC subframe into my FB. Taking the steering column, rack, bigger brakes, engine mounts, and suspension. Aside from the vehicle speed vs. engine speed power steering, were there differences in the rack ratios? I intend to modify the rack and run non-assisted steering.

Second, an axle and brake adapter kit from Respeed (http://mrcmfg.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=204) specifies TII rear calipers and rotors for the conversion. Are the TII calipers equivilent to say an 89 vert's brakes in the rear.

I'm looking to take the parts from an 89 convertible and I know it has 4 piston calipers in the front and the 5 lug pattern to match the axle kit offered from Respeed.

Thanks for helping me cross the (RX7)generational gap, making something of a hybrid, albeit much less green than Al Gore would like.

Yes, FCs came with three different ratios.
All manual racks were 20:1, S5 power racks were 17.x:1 and S4s were 15:1.

The only difference between the "turbo" rear brakes (vented rotors) and standard (non vented) is the rotors-obviously- and the caliper bodies...the turbo caliper body being slightly wider to accommodate the thicker rotor.
As long as you keep the caliper and rotor together, the assemblies are interchangeable.

what ^^^ said

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't the vented rear discs on come on S4's?

I'm doing the same conversion as you are. I have a build thread in the racing section.

Consider yourself corrected.
Vented rear rotors came on both S4 and S5 models.

i thought s4 n/a came with vented on all four, i checked them like i month ago if i recall. unless somebody upgraded them ?

All RX's came with vented fronts.

Models originally equipped with 4 piston front calipers came with matching rear vented rotor setups, cars with single piston fronts had solid rear disks.

"I was told that all convertibles and turbo models had the same brakes. It was the GXL's that had the non-vented rears but had 4pot front calipers." -nofords

I just want to confirm this that the 89' convertible would have the same rear brakes as the TII.

Thanks.

hay just question, does the base model only come with 1 piston front calipers ? ( 1987 base )

I might be wrong here (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am) but I thought the verts and TII had the same brake setup with the exception of the BMC.

Just to be clear, because the same question seems to keep getting asked different ways here: S4 and S5 GXL/GTU/Sport came with vented rear rotors and five lug hubs - basically the same suspension/brakes as TII's; Base/GX cars came with 4 lug hubs and non-vented rears (and of course the single-piston fronts). Generation isn't relevant, just 4 vs. 5 lug hubs to identify models with the beefier suspension and brakes.
