steering angle sensor

What is the function of this wonderful little pain in the ass? I know it cancels the turn signal, But what does it do for the power steering? I read in another post that it sent a signal to the power steering computer. What would the effect of removing it be? thanks

When the steering sensor tells the steering conmuter you're going straight, & the speed sensor says over 30MPH, The pump bypasses to cut engine drag & give better road feel.

Without it the steering computer will beep an error code.

Why is it a pain in the ass? Why would you remove it?

Well i got an atermarket momo steering wheel and adapter, but the adapter is wrong. Between the angle sensor there is a piece of plastic with two prongs that lock into the steering wheel. This dosent fit between the steering wheel adapter and the sensor ring. It's not really the sensor thats a pain in the ass, it's the stupid SW adapter. The adapter does have two holes for the little piece of plastic, so im wondering If i could take some plumbers putty and make my own piece to go there. Might try it this afternoon.

Oh and just so theres no flamage, the steering wheel I got is about an inch smaller in diameter and helps my big ass get in and out of the car. I think it feels better too.

Replacing the steering wheel with a better one is a good idea, but you should get the right hub for the car.
