steam clean
 

Is this the best way to get a nasty engine bay looking new again? Are there any draw backs to steam cleaning? I want to get the bay cleaned real well and I don't mind paying someone to do it because I don't have the patiants for all that. I already cleaned my wheel wells good enough to look brand new but the engine is a total differant beast. Thanks.

Steam cleaning is actually a great way to go. I had it done to mine. However, cover the alternator and ignotors with plastic bags , and stuff the air intake with rags or whatever before they do it. Also, let the engine cool before they do it. They will prolly wash it down once the steaming is done and you do not want to get cold water on a hot engine.

Depending on just how good they do it, you may have to bring it home and use something like Simple Green to get the spots the the steam/H20 missed.

Mine came out as new looking as a 14 year old car can.

You will want to post that question in the West regional section of the forum

You will also want to cover your brake master and Clutch master with bag before cleaning as well. You do not want the least amount of water (steam) getting in to mix with the brake/clutch fluids.

I hope you have a new wiring harness because you are probably going to need it.

Steam cleaning is hell on wiring harness's, usually makes the wiring brittle and causes it to crack, and you know (just look around this forum) how many people are having wiring problems just because of age.

Hot water cleaning is one thing, but I would not even consider exposing a wiring harness to steam.

Amen! I couldn't say it better. Mine hasn't started since getting water somewhere while doing a simple flush/fill :confused:
